Senior Mining Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for leading mine planning, design, and operational optimization to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of mineral resources. The role provides technical expertise in mine development, scheduling, and production monitoring, while mentoring junior engineers and supporting compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities1. Mine Planning & Design

• Develop short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine plans in line with production targets and company objectives.
• Design pit layouts, haul roads, and waste dumps for maximum efficiency and safety.
• Optimize mine sequencing to ensure ore recovery, grade control, and cost reduction.

2. Production Monitoring & Optimization

• Oversee drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling activities to meet daily and monthly production targets.
• Analyze production data and recommend improvements to equipment utilization and cycle times.
• Implement cost-control measures while maintaining ore quality and operational safety.

3. Safety, Environment & Compliance

• Ensure mine designs and operations comply with MGB regulations, environmental permits, and safety standards.
• Monitor slope stability, ground control, and other geotechnical aspects of mining.
• Support environmental management programs, rehabilitation, and sustainable mining practices.

4. Leadership & Mentoring

• Supervise and mentor junior mine engineers, surveyors, and technical staff.
• Provide guidance in mine design software, production monitoring, and reporting systems.
• Conduct technical training and knowledge sharing within the mining team.

5. Reporting & Coordination

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on mine operations, costs, and resource utilization.
• Coordinate with Geology, Survey, Safety, and Operations departments for integrated mine planning.
• Participate in feasibility studies, resource/reserve estimation, and budgeting.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to support departmental and organizational needs from time to time.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering; must be a licensed Mining Engineer.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in mine planning and operations, with at least 2 years in a senior/lead role.
• Proficient in mine planning and design software (e.g., Surpac, Minesched, Whittle).
• Strong knowledge of open-pit mining methods, drilling & blasting, and haulage systems.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of Philippine mining laws, safety, and environmental regulations.
