Senior Mining Engineer

Position: Senior Mining Engineer / Mine Manager (Alluvial Gold Mining)

Location : Mpika, Zambia

Reporting To : Managing Director / Project Director (Bangalore, India)

Employment Type : Full-time, Expatriate Position

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to lead and manage a small-to-

medium scale alluvial gold mining operation in Zambia. The successful candidate will

oversee mine planning, production, wash plant operations, equipment utilization,

workforce management, safety compliance, gold recovery optimization, and

reporting to company management.

The candidate must have prior experience in alluvial gold mining, placer mining, or

open-pit mining operations in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Operational Management

1. Manage daily mining operations and production activities.

2. Develop mining plans to achieve production targets.

3. Supervise excavation, hauling, and ore processing activities.

4. Optimize productivity of excavators, tipper trucks, and wash plants.

5. Monitor gold recovery rates and improve operational efficiency.

6. Conduct geological assessment and grade control activities.

7. Recommend pit development and mining sequence.

Production Management

1. Achieve production target of:

2. 1,000 TPD processing

3.300 grams gold/day

4. 6 kg gold/month

5. Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs.

6.Prepare production and operational reports.

Equipment Management

1. Monitor excavator and truck utilization.

2.Ensure preventive maintenance schedules.

3. Manage equipment operators and mechanical teams.

4. Control fuel consumption and equipment operating costs.

Safety & Compliance

1. Implement Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards.

2.Conduct toolbox talks and safety training.

3. Ensure use of PPE and safe mining practices.

4. Minimize environmental impact and supervise rehabilitation works.

Regulatory & Government Relations

1.Ensure compliance with Zambian mining regulations.

2. Coordinate with Ministry of Mines and local authorities.

3. Maintain permits, licenses, and statutory records.

Financial Control

1. Manage operational budget.

2. Monitor cost per tonne mined.

3. Control fuel, maintenance, labour, and logistics costs.

Team Leadership

1. Lead workforce of approximately 15-30 employees.

2. Recruit and train local personnel.

3. Develop local supervisors and operators.

Required Qualifications

Education

Mandatory:

Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering

Preferred:

1. Master's Degree in Mining Engineering

2. Diploma in Mine Health & Safety

3. Project Management Certification (PMP/Prince2) is advantageous

Required Experience

Minimum Experience

1. 10+ years in mining operations

2. Minimum 5 years in gold mining

3. Minimum 3 years in Africa
