What they need

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Modeller to join our Quantitative Risk Management (QRM) team, applying your quantitative expertise to help shape Westpac’s credit risk profile and strengthen how we understand and manage risk.

You’ll work across retail and non-retail portfolios, collaborating with teams across the bank to deliver high-quality modelling outcomes and strengthen best practice. You’ll also bring your expertise to wider modelling projects, work closely with stakeholders across the bank and help grow modelling capability and best practice across QRM.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Develop and enhance Probability of Default (PD), Exposure at Default (EAD) and Loss Given Default (LGD) credit risk models.
  • Monitor model performance and develop supporting tools.
  • Support stress testing, scenario analysis, benchmarking and model reviews.
  • Contribute to model governance, validation and regulatory reviews.
  • Share your expertise and help grow modelling capability across QRM.
  • Improve practices across analytics, coding, documentation and data visualisation.
  • Challenge existing processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and quality.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to keep projects moving and deliver quality outcomes.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

You’ll bring a strong quantitative mindset and enjoy using data and modelling to solve complex problems and deliver practical insights.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Proficiency in at least one analytical programming language such as SAS, SQL, R or Python, with the ability and willingness to learn new tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to write clear technical documentation and confidently communicate your findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the confidence to constructively challenge.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to proactively manage timelines and work with others to resolve blockers.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as the Basel Accord, RBNZ Banking Prudential Requirements, APRA Prudential Standards or IFRS would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.

If you enjoy combining quantitative modelling, coding and problem solving with the opportunity to influence how credit risk is understood and managed, we’d love to hear from you.
