Senior Monitoring Expert (Splunk)

Context

A monitoring and alerting platform is implemented at a major utility company based on Splunk products. This platform is built upon:

• Splunk Enterprise
• Splunk Enterprise Security
• Splunk IT Service Intelligence

A coexisting troubleshooting platform, Dynatrace, is used only for troubleshooting purposes.

The company wants to reinforce its monitoring team, preferably with Dynatrace skills and having Splunk experience. They are looking for an expert to assist with monitoring and alerting, and who could help eventually migrate the monitoring platform from Splunk to Dynatrace.

The company is seeking a senior consultant with advanced Dynatrace or Splunk experience to reinforce the internal team for this migration. To confirm the decision, a pilot will start in 2027 with the migration of two applicative solutions in an end-to-end perspective into Dynatrace. If successful, a full migration from Splunk to Dynatrace is planned over the next few years.

Missions

• Identify KPIs to monitor infrastructure components such as:
  • Storage systems
  • Network components
  • Operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Virtual infrastructure
  • Servers, databases, time servers
  • Certificate infrastructure and applications
• Implement application monitoring based on KPIs delivered by application teams
• Configure monitoring data gathering/retrieving (preferably in Dynatrace)
• Configure alerts and associated events (sending emails, executing code, etc.)
• Configure dashboards
• Enhance Splunk knowledge to fulfill company expectations
• Ensure all configurations follow best practices

The consultant will deliver work in the following areas:

• Identification and documentation of monitoring requirements for infrastructure components and applications
• Validation of the future Dynatrace configuration and monitoring implementation, proposing improvements to align with best practices
• Analyze, implement, test, and deploy new monitoring requirements in Dynatrace or Splunk
• Document changes and maintain existing documentation
• Implement monitoring requirements in Splunk to support the monitoring team while both platforms coexist
• Analyze, implement, test, and deploy new monitoring requirements in Splunk for simple/small requirements

1. Senior profile with at least 5 years of experience in a similar monitoring role
2. Experience with the implementation of monitoring requirements in Splunk for large companies with diverse technologies, especially in a virtualized context
3. Certification related to Dynatrace or Splunk is an advantage
4. Proven experience with documentation of monitoring requirements and definition of monitoring KPIs per asset type
5. Proven experience with operational activities, preferably in Dynatrace
6. Advanced knowledge on data gathering configuration, alerting, and dashboard creation
7. Very good understanding of infrastructure technologies and ability to define and configure monitoring KPIs efficiently
8. Advanced knowledge on monitoring of Virtual infrastructure (SDDC [VxRail], Vmware, VRLI, VRNI) and integration with vCenter

10. Experience with operational tasks and troubleshooting activities, preferably in Dynatrace
