Senior Network Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a large, complex enterprise environment on a 12-month contract based in Wellington.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to an engineer with strong expertise in Cisco networking, Juniper Firewalls, routing, switching and enterprise network infrastructure.
You will be responsible for maintaining, supporting and improving business-critical network environments, resolving complex technical issues and contributing to network design, infrastructure upgrades and ongoing operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, maintain and troubleshoot complex enterprise network infrastructure.
• Manage and support Cisco networking technologies and Juniper Firewalls.
• Configure, maintain and upgrade routers, switches, firewalls, VPN gateways and load balancers.
• Investigate and resolve complex network incidents, performance issues and connectivity problems.
• Support network infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, migrations and technical changes.
• Contribute to network architecture, capacity planning, security and disaster recovery.
• Monitor network performance, availability and reliability, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Work closely with infrastructure teams, technical stakeholders and external vendors.
• Maintain technical documentation, network configurations and operational procedures.
• Support both project delivery and business-as-usual (BAU) network operations.

What We're Looking For

• Significant hands-on experience as a Senior Network Engineer supporting large, distributed enterprise networks.
• Strong Cisco networking expertise, including routing, switching, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Practical experience managing and configuring Juniper Firewalls.
• Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPN gateways, load balancing and network security.
• Experience supporting complex, multi-vendor network environments.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues independently.
• Experience implementing network changes, upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
• Solid understanding of change management, incident management and service delivery processes.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders.

Relevant networking qualifications or certifications will be advantageous, although practical enterprise networking experience is particularly important.

This is a Wellington-based hybrid role, requiring 2 days per week onsite in the Wellington office, with the remaining 3 days working from home. Applicants must be based in Wellington or willing to relocate. Fully remote working is not available.
