What they need

About Us

We are a stealth-mode deep-tech startup building a breakthrough infrared (IR) sensing platform, developing next-generation imaging and sensing systems based on advanced nonlinear optics.

Our technology integrates advanced nonlinear optics, electro-optical engineering, and novel system architectures to unlock a new class of high-performance IR detection capabilities. Our technology is built on more than 15 years of breakthrough academic research from Weizmann Institute and Tel Aviv University and supported by an experienced leadership and technical team. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Senior Optomechanical Engineer to lead the optomechanical design, integration, and optimization of our next-generation imaging systems.

The Role

As a Senior Optomechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing precision optomechanical assemblies for advanced infrared imaging systems. You will work closely with optical, laser, electronics, and EO system engineers to translate optical architectures into robust, compact, and manufacturable hardware.

The role covers the full development cycle, from optical layout and mechanical concept development to detailed design, prototyping, alignment, testing, and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the optomechanical design and integration of advanced imaging systems, including MWIR optics, nonlinear optics, laser, and sensors.
  • Design precision mechanical structures, optical mounts, lens barrels, alignment mechanisms, enclosures, and thermal management solutions.
  • Develop optomechanical solutions that maintain optical alignment and stability under thermal, mechanical, and environmental variations.
  • Design crystal holders, temperature-controlled mounts, and precision positioning mechanisms for nonlinear optical components.
  • Hands-on assembly, integration, and alignment of imaging systems, including laser, imaging optics, and precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Independently build, modify, debug, and optimize laboratory prototypes and experimental setups, combining mechanical design expertise with practical optical bench work.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, sensitivity analysis, and mechanical and thermal stability assessments.
  • Collaborate with optical engineers to optimize optical performance, packaging, alignment, and system-level integration.
  • Develop and implement passive and active thermal management solutions, including TEC-based temperature stabilization where required.
  • Lead prototype assembly, optical alignment, experimental validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Define design requirements and verification procedures, and support system characterization and performance optimization.
  • Work with external suppliers and machine shops on precision CNC parts, coatings, surface finishes, and mechanical manufacturing.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing, design-for-assembly, reliability, and cost optimization throughout product development.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, tolerance specifications, and assembly documentation.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in optomechanical design and development of precision optical systems.
  • Strong experience with 3D CAD tools, such as SolidWorks or an equivalent platform, including detailed manufacturing drawings and GD&T.
  • Proven hands-on experience building, assembling, and aligning optical systems, beyond mechanical design and CAD work.
  • Proven experience designing precision optomechanical assemblies involving lenses, mirrors, optical mounts, and alignment mechanisms.
  • Solid understanding of optical alignment, mechanical tolerances, thermal expansion, and optomechanical stability.
  • Experience with precision machining, CNC manufacturing, and optical component mounting.
  • Practical experience with prototype assembly, laboratory integration, and experimental troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of complex engineering tasks, and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary R&D team.
  • Excellent technical communication skills in English.

Advantages

  • Experience with infrared imaging systems, particularly SWIR and MWIR cameras.
  • Experience with nonlinear optics.
  • Experience integrating lasers, beam-shaping optics and precision optical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of thermal management, TECs, and temperature stabilization of optical components.
  • Experience with optomechanical tolerance analysis and simulation tools, including FEA and thermal analysis.
  • Familiarity with stray-light control, optical baffling, light sealing, and optical contamination management.
  • Experience developing compact, lightweight optomechanical systems for industrial or commercial products.
  • Experience taking optical prototypes from laboratory demonstrations to manufacturable products.

Personal Attributes

  • Hands-on, practical, and detail-oriented engineering approach.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • High standards of engineering quality and documentation.
  • Ability to balance optical performance, mechanical stability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary startup environment.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to develop breakthrough infrared imaging technology.
  • A central technical role with significant ownership of system architecture and product development.
  • Close collaboration with an experienced multidisciplinary R&D team.
  • The opportunity to influence the design of a novel photonics product from prototype to commercialization.
