Senior Oracle Database & Linux Administrator

Role Purpose

The Senior Oracle Database & Linux Administrator is responsible for the secure, stable, and efficient operation of enterprise Oracle database platforms.

The primary focus of the role is Oracle database administration, including database lifecycle management, Data Guard, backup and recovery, migrations, upgrades, performance optimization, and operational support.

In addition to Oracle database responsibilities, the role is expected to contribute to Linux administration activities, primarily in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, and collaborate closely with the Linux infrastructure team.

The position combines operational support, project delivery, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives. As a senior technical specialist, the successful candidate will act as an escalation point for complex issues, contribute to technical designs and drive standardization and operational excellence.

Required Skills and Experience

Oracle Database

• Extensive hands-on experience administering Oracle databases in enterprise production environments.
• Strong knowledge of Oracle database architecture, performance tuning, patching, backup and recovery.
• Proven experience with Oracle Data Guard administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience planning and executing database migrations and version upgrades.
• Strong experience with RMAN, Data Pump, OPatch, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
• Advanced SQL skills and practical PL/SQL experience.
• Experience in managing database security, access controls, and operational compliance requirements.
• Experience planning and executing backup, restore, recovery, and disaster recovery testing activities.

Linux

• Strong administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (from RHEL 6 to RHEL 10).
• Practical experience with Linux patching, upgrades, troubleshooting, storage, networking, and system maintenance.
• Good understanding of Linux environments supporting Oracle database workloads.
• Ability to troubleshoot across databases, operating system, storage, and network components.
• Experience working within security, compliance, and lifecycle management standards.

Automation

• Strong Bash scripting skills.
• Practical Python experience for administration and automation tasks.
• Experience with Ansible or equivalent automation tools.
• Working knowledge of Git and version control practices.
• Experience automating operational and infrastructure processes.
• Understanding of testing, logging, error handling, and secure credential management within automation solutions.

Project and Professional Experience

• Experience supporting business-critical production environments.
• Proven experience contributing to databases, Linux, migration, upgrade, or infrastructure projects.
• Ability to independently manage technical activities and deliverables from planning through operational handover.
• Experience preparing implementation, testing, validation, recovery, and rollback plans.
• Ability to assess technical risks, dependencies, impacts, and operational requirements.
• Experience contributing operational expertise to technical designs.
• Experience working within change, incident, and problem management processes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to different stakeholder groups.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.
• Experience acting as a senior escalation point for complex technical incidents.
• Experience producing and maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge articles using wiki

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
• Experience administering mixed Oracle environments, including legacy and currently supported versions (from 10g to 19c).
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management, security baselines, and audit requirements.
• Experience supporting healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, or other regulated environments.
• Oracle, Red Hat, or other relevant technical certifications.
• ITIL certification or practical ITIL knowledge.
