What they need

Position Description

Advance Carolina is seeking a strategic and collaborative Senior Organizer to strengthen grassroots organizing, cultivate community leadership, and expand Black political power across the Triangle region. This role will lead regional organizing efforts by building volunteer and leadership pipelines, developing civic engagement and political education programming, and coordinating issue-based and electoral campaigns that deepen community participation and strengthen local organizing capacity.

The Senior Organizer will work closely with staff, coalition partners, and community leaders to develop organizing systems, resources, and programming that will be piloted in Wake County and designed for expansion into neighboring counties. The ideal candidate is an experienced organizer with a strong background in base-building, leadership development, and campaign strategy, and a commitment to building sustainable organizing infrastructure that advances long-term community power.

Key Responsibilities

1. Civic Engagement & Base-Building

  • Develop and implement year-round organizing programs that bridge class divides and connect Black communities to advocacy and electoral power.
  • Build and sustain relationships with community members, volunteers, and local stakeholders to expand and strengthen the organization’s base.
  • Establish and coordinate coalitions with grassroots community organizations.
  • Conduct targeted voter outreach through in-person, relational, and digital organizing strategies to increase civic participation.

2. Civic Engagement & Political Education

  • Design and facilitate civic engagement and political education programming that increases participants’ understanding of local, state, and national issues.
  • Develop educational curricula, workshops, and community conversations that connect issue-based organizing to long-term civic participation and collective action.
  • Create political education materials and programs that can be adapted across the region and neighboring counties.

3. Strategic Campaign Development & Implementation

  • Design and execute issue-based organizing campaigns that tie directly to electoral work and long-term, co-governance strategies.
  • Lead messaging refinement by working with narrative experts to shape political discourse that resonates with working-class Black voters.

4. Leadership Development & Movement Building

  • Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers and emerging leaders to strengthen organizing capacity.
  • Develop leadership pathways by identifying and supporting community ambassadors who can organize within their neighborhoods and networks.
  • Equip volunteer leaders with the tools and resources needed to lead organizing efforts and sustain engagement.
  • Collaborate with partners to strengthen long-term Black civic engagement infrastructure beyond elections.

5. Organizational & Data Management

  • Maintain and utilize VAN and digital tools for voter engagement and tracking.
  • Develop metrics and reports to assess campaign impact and inform strategy adjustments.
  • Manage organizing infrastructure, including event logistics, communication tools, and volunteer coordination.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of organizing experience, including electoral and issue-based campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of North Carolina’s political and economic landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing coalitions, volunteer programs, and/or field campaigns.
  • Experience working with Black communities, working-class voters, and communities historically disengaged from the political process.
  • Ability to analyze voter data and translate insights into strategic actions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including political messaging and public speaking.
  • Proficiency in VAN, Google Workspace, and digital organizing tools.
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice and the ability to work across lines of difference.
  • MUST live within a 30-mile radius of Wake County

Compensation

  • $3,500 per month
