What you will do as a Sr. Packaging Engineer

  • Lead packaging development for new products, product changes, and sustaining initiatives from concept through validation with minimal oversight
  • Select and apply packaging materials, formats, and design approaches to meet functional, operational, cost, and sustainability requirements
  • Define and execute packaging performance testing plans, interpreting results and driving design improvements aligned to product risk and distribution conditions
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including packaging specifications, drawings, and test protocols
  • Drive packaging manufacturability and readiness by identifying and resolving design, process, or supplier-related issues
  • Lead root cause investigations and resolve packaging-related issues impacting quality, cost, delivery, or customer experience
  • Partner with suppliers to evaluate materials and capabilities and support qualification activities and ongoing technical performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, R&D) to ensure alignment and successful implementation
  • Contribute to cost optimization, material efficiency, and waste reduction initiatives and provide guidance and informal mentorship while supporting development of best practices

The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of packaging engineering or related engineering experience in regulated environments (e.g., manufacturing, industrial, healthcare)
  • Working knowledge of sterile barrier systems and packaging validation principles
  • Familiarity with industry standards related to medical device packaging and testing (e.g., International Organization for Standardization and American Society for Testing and Materials)
