Public Sector People are proud to be partnering with Randwick City Council to appoint a Senior Payroll Officer on a 24-month fixed-term contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join a highly knowledgeable and supportive team, working across a complex Council payroll environment with exposure to multiple employment conditions, awards and agreements.

With an established team around you and significant payroll knowledge within the function, the role offers a great opportunity to further develop your technical capability while contributing from day one.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Coordinator Payroll within Financial Services, you'll play a hands-on role in the accurate and timely delivery of Council's fortnightly payroll.

Working across the full payroll cycle, you'll process employee changes, leave, deductions, superannuation and terminations, interpret relevant awards and workplace agreements, maintain accurate employee records and support regular and ad hoc payroll reporting.

A key part of the role will be working directly with employees, managers and supervisors across Council. You'll provide clear and accurate payroll advice, respond to a broad range of employee queries and help ensure staff feel comfortable approaching the payroll team for support.

About You
You'll be an experienced payroll professional who combines strong technical knowledge with an approachable, calm and service-focused working style.
You will bring:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working within a payroll function.
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end payroll processes, including superannuation, leave, deductions and terminations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying awards, enterprise agreements and employment conditions.
  • The ability to work accurately within a busy fortnightly payroll cycle and manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence providing payroll advice to employees and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • A collaborative, supportive and approachable working style.
  • Strong payroll systems capability and the ability to learn new systems and processes.

Experience within Local Government payroll, knowledge of the Local Government State Award and experience using Dayforce will be highly regarded.

Candidates with payroll experience from other complex environments, including State Government, water, utilities or organisations operating across multiple awards and enterprise agreements, are also encouraged to apply.

Why Randwick City Council?
Randwick City Council offers the opportunity to join an established and supportive Financial Services team while building your experience within a complex Local Government payroll environment.

  • Learn alongside highly experienced finance professionals with significant Council knowledge.
  • Gain exposure to complex awards, agreements and employee conditions.
  • Work within a friendly and people-focused culture, with approachable leadership, regular team connection and a strong focus on supporting employees.

This role will suit an experienced payroll professional who enjoys being hands-on and building strong relationships with employees. It offers the opportunity to contribute immediately while learning from an experienced payroll function and further developing your career.
