About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transmission Interconnection Engineer with 5–10 years of experience in the U.S. power markets. In this role, you will be the technical lead for managing the grid interconnection lifecycle of utility-scale renewable energy projects (Solar, Wind, and BESS) from initial siting strategy through commercial operation. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working for an engineering consultancy that specializes in power flow and system impact studies, bringing a deep technical understanding of how to navigate RTO/ISO queues and mitigate grid constraints.
Responsibilities
- Study Management: Lead and oversee the execution of interconnection studies, including Feasibility, System Impact (SIS), and Facilities Studies.
- Technical Analysis: Perform and peer-review power flow simulations, short-circuit analyses, and transient stability studies using industry-standard software.
- U.S. Market Expertise: Navigate interconnection procedures across major U.S. markets (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE) and ensure compliance with FERC and NERC planning standards.
- Consultant Oversight: Manage external engineering consultants, ensuring the quality and accuracy of their technical deliverables and models.
- Strategic Siting: Collaborate with project development teams to identify technically viable and cost-effective points of interconnection (POI) based on hosting capacity and congestion analysis.
- Interconnection Agreements: Lead technical negotiations for Interconnection Agreements (IA) and facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and transmission owners/utilities.
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior interconnection engineers.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university; a Master’s degree with a focus on Power Systems is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5–10 years of professional experience in transmission planning or interconnection within the U.S. energy sector.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced hands-on experience with power system modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, or Power World.
- Consultancy Background: Strong preference for candidates with experience at a top-tier engineering consultancy (e.g., performing third-party power flow studies for developers).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATT), Generator Interconnection Procedures (GIP), and utility-specific technical standards.
Preferred Skills
- Automation: Proficiency in Python or SQL for automating large-scale data analysis and study processing.
- Professional Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Communications: Proven ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable business insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Pay range and compensation package
The expected salary range for this position is $ 150,000 – 185,000 Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, education, and location.
