Senior Permit Technician

VCA Code is seeking experienced, ICC Certified Permit Technicians to provide temporary support to a municipal Building & Safety department in Long Beach, CA . We are looking for professionals with strong municipal permitting experience who can work effectively in a busy permit center, adapt quickly to department procedures and systems, and begin handling assignments within a short period.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and courteous customer service at the public counter
• Process permit applications and assist with permit-related questions
• Collect fees, maintain records, and perform accurate data entry
• Assist contractors, homeowners, applicants, and members of the public
• Support daily Building & Safety permitting operations
• Manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and productivity
• Work effectively with department staff and adapt to changing priorities

Qualifications

• Current ICC Permit Technician Certification required
• Previous municipal Permit Technician experience required
• Strong knowledge of permit processing and public counter operations
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational, data entry, and multitasking skills
• Comfortable working in a large, fast-paced permit center
• Ability to quickly learn new procedures and permitting systems

Schedule & Location

• Onsite in Long Beach, CA
• 32–40 hours per week
• Tentative hours: 7:30 AM–4:30 PM
• Schedule flexibility required based on department coverage needs

Additional Requirements

• Must successfully pass a background check, including the City’s Live Scan process
• Short City interview required prior to starting
