Founded in 1911, this global electrical equipment and grid technology organization employs approximately 1,000 to 5,000 people worldwide, with more than 2,000 employees based in its Chicago headquarters and manufacturing campus. For over a century, the company has designed and manufactured advanced switching, protection, and control solutions for electric power transmission and distribution systems, helping utilities and industrial customers build safer, more reliable, and intelligent electrical infrastructure.

Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Petroleum Engineer to lead upstream operations and reservoir engineering initiatives that optimize hydrocarbon recovery and field development. The role combines technical leadership, reservoir modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective production strategies. The ideal candidate will bring deep upstream experience, strong reservoir engineering expertise, and practical software skills in Python or JavaScript to support data analysis, automation, and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical planning and execution of upstream field development, production optimization, and well intervention strategies to maximize recovery and value.
  • Develop and maintain reservoir models (decline curve analysis, material balance, reservoir simulation) to forecast performance, assess reserves, and support development decisions.
  • Analyze production data, well test results, and subsurface information to identify opportunities and risks; recommend remedial actions and production enhancement projects.
  • Design and evaluate enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and secondary recovery programs, including pilot studies and full-field implementation.
  • Collaborate with drilling, completions, facilities, and HSE teams to ensure integrated and safe execution of development plans.
  • Automate data workflows and build analytic tools using Python or JavaScript to improve reporting, reservoir surveillance, and decision support.
  • Prepare technical reports, business cases, and presentations for management and stakeholders; provide mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to competency development.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and company standards for reservoir management and production operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline; PhD is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas operations with demonstrated reservoir engineering leadership on field development and production optimization.
  • Proven expertise in reservoir engineering techniques including reservoir simulation, decline analysis, well testing, reserves estimation, and material balance methods.
  • Practical experience using Python or JavaScript for data analysis, scripting, automation, or developing web-based visualization tools; knowledge of relevant libraries or frameworks (e.g., pandas, NumPy, Plotly, Node.js) is advantageous.
  • Strong familiarity with production engineering, well performance analysis, and EOR methods.
  • Excellent problem solving, technical communication, and stakeholder management skills; experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with industry software (e.g., Eclipse, CMG, Petrel, OFM) and reservoir data management practices.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites as required and to support operations in multi-location environments.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Generous paid time off and company holidays
  • Fully remote work flexibility with minimal travel requirements
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance
  • Professional development, training, and career advancement opportunities
  • Collaborative and innovative team environment
  • Modern technology and home office support
  • Opportunity to work with industry-leading energy and technology professionals
