What they need

About CPB

CPB Contractors is Australia’s leading contractor and the largest infrastructure construction company in our region. Part of the CIMIC Group, we are proud to be constructing New Zealand’s future and do so collaboratively with our partners and clients.

We hire for careers, not project life. CPB Contractors has more than 50 major infrastructure projects in delivery, across all key sectors of the construction industry, including roads and bridges, rail, tunnelling, defence, airports, buildings and resources, providing you with career opportunities for years to come.

The Project

The New Dunedin Hospital project is the single largest hospital project ever undertaken in New Zealand. Following an extended period of Early Contractor Engagement, Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand has confirmed their intention to enter into contract with CPB Contractors for the Inpatient Building, in recognition of our depth of experience in the delivery of healthcare facilities across Australasia and our contribution to the project to date.

Spanning 71,700m2 and constructed on the former Cadbury Chocolate Factory in the centre of the city, the Inpatient Building will provide high-quality acute medical facilities in support of its role as a tertiary teaching hospital. Onsite services will include 424 beds, including future expansion of 53 beds. A total of 24 theatres, including a future capacity of 2 theatres, imaging suites and radiology. With a five-star Greenstar sustainability rating, the building's design and its use of the latest technology will provide real change to the delivery of healthcare within the region.

Your Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and enhance the Planning function on major infrastructure, civil, rail, or building projects. You will provide expert planning leadership across project controls, scheduling, performance reporting, risk management, and change management, while supporting project teams to successfully deliver complex projects on time and within programme objectives.

You will play a key role in developing and maintaining project schedules, analysing performance, identifying programme risks, leading time impact assessments, and providing strategic solutions to programme challenges. The role also includes driving best-practice planning methodologies, including Last Planner, 4D planning, BIM integration, and performance reporting through effective dashboards and KPIs.

Our minimum requirements for this role are:

  • Experience in construction planning and project delivery within Tier 1 contractors or major infrastructure organisations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and strong working knowledge of Asta Powerproject, Microsoft Project, and other industry-standard planning systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project scheduling, critical path analysis, resource planning, earned value management, programme reporting, and risk analysis.
  • Proven ability to establish and implement planning systems, performance measurement frameworks, dashboards, and KPIs aligned with project controls best practice.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and developing planning capability within project teams.
  • Professional planning or project controls certification (PMI-SP, PSP, PMI-CP, APM, CIOB, or equivalent).
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related discipline.

We support diversity in the workplace. Māori, Pasifika, women, and people from varied cultural backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
