About the Company

Our client is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong presence across the UK, delivering innovative solutions across planning, engineering, environmental and infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth in their Cardiff office, they are seeking a motivated Senior Planner to join their expanding planning team.

The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will play an important role in managing planning projects, providing expert advice to clients and supporting the delivery of development proposals across a range of sectors. You will have the opportunity to take responsibility for your own workload, build client relationships and work closely with colleagues on complex and interesting schemes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate planning applications, appeals and associated documentation.
• Undertake site appraisals, planning policy reviews and development feasibility assessments.
• Prepare Planning Statements, Design and Access Statements and other supporting reports.
• Advise clients on planning strategy, development opportunities and potential planning constraints.
• Build effective relationships with local planning authorities, statutory consultees and other key stakeholders.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, transport, engineering and design specialists.
• Keep up to date with changes to planning legislation, national policy and local development frameworks.
• Manage project programmes, budgets and deadlines to ensure successful delivery.
• Attend client meetings and contribute to the development of existing client relationships.
• Support junior colleagues through knowledge sharing and day-to-day guidance where appropriate.

About You

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and commercially aware planning professional with experience delivering projects within a consultancy, local authority or development-led environment.

You will ideally have:

• A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• MRTPI accreditation, or be actively working towards chartership.
• Demonstrable experience managing planning applications and development projects.
• A strong understanding of the UK planning system and relevant planning policy.
• Excellent written communication, report-writing and analytical skills.
• Confidence communicating with clients, local authorities and project stakeholders.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to agreed deadlines.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and project delivery.
• A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working across residential, commercial, mixed-use or infrastructure developments.
• Familiarity with Welsh planning policy and development frameworks.
• Experience in a client-facing consultancy role.
• Exposure to larger-scale or complex development proposals.
