Senior Platform Engineer (Azure)

What you will do

• Design, build and operate enterprise database platforms across Azure and on-premises environments.
• Engineer and optimise Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server platforms, with PostgreSQL and/or Oracle as additional database technologies.
• Lead database migrations to Azure, from assessment and sizing through cutover and legacy decommissioning.
• Automate database provisioning, configuration and patching using Infrastructure as Code, scripting and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure performance, high availability, disaster recovery, backup and restore capabilities.
• Improve monitoring, incident management, security, access controls and database cost efficiency.
• Define platform standards, support compliance activities and collaborate with cloud, application and data engineering teams.

What you bring

• At least 6 years of hands-on DBA or database engineering experience, including 3+ years working with Azure in an enterprise environment.
• Strong Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL expertise, including high availability, disaster recovery and performance tuning.
• Solid experience with at least one additional database engine: PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.
• Practical Infrastructure as Code and automation experience, including Terraform, PowerShell, Python and CI/CD tooling.
• Experience migrating databases to Azure and working with Azure networking, identity, access management and Key Vault.
• Familiarity with ITIL-based operations, monitoring and incident management.
• An ownership mindset, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
