The opportunity
Want to see your policy work make a practical difference? Join us to help shape the decisions that affect automotive businesses across New Zealand and bring our members' experiences into the policy conversation.
Reporting to our Head of Advocacy, you'll turn research, industry knowledge and member insight into clear policy positions, submissions and advice. You'll build relationships across government and industry, explore complex issues and help us put forward practical, persuasive recommendations.

Coordinate member, technical and internal input into policy work and formal consultation responses.
Support MTA's Policy Manifesto, Industry Leaders Forum, National Panel and other priority advocacy programmes.
Represent MTA in meetings, working groups, hearings and consultation forums.
About MTA
For more than 100 years, we've helped New Zealand's automotive businesses thrive. Our members work across the industry, from vehicle sales and servicing to fuel and recycling. We support them with practical services, advocate on their behalf and help lift industry standards. Joining MTA means being part of that work.
About you
You're curious, thoughtful and able to see an issue from different perspectives. You enjoy getting to the heart of a complex problem and explaining it clearly. You'll bring political awareness, sound judgement and a genuine interest in how policy affects businesses on the ground.
What you'll bring
Considerable experience in policy analysis, policy development, government relations, regulatory affairs or advocacy.
A sound understanding of New Zealand's machinery of government and legislative and regulatory processes.
A track record of producing quality submissions, policy papers, briefings and senior-level advice.
The ability to build trusted relationships and influence others.
Excellent research, critical-thinking and clear, persuasive writing skills.
A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent practical experience; legal training or qualifications will be highly regarded.
We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your CV and a cover letter telling us what interests you about the role and the experience you'd bring.
