SENIOR PORTER

Full time, permanent post working 4 days on and 4 days off

£32,722 per annum

Newnham College wishes to recruit a permanent Senior Porter to work closely with one other Senior Porter in supporting and deputising for the Head Porter. Working as part of a busy team, this role entails organising and running shifts of both permanent day and night porters and a body of relief porters which provide 24-hour cover in the Porters’ Lodge.

Traditionally the Lodge acts as a hub for the College, providing information and support to all students, fellows, visitors, guests and staff with an efficient and effective front reception and a friendly, welcoming face, helping with the full range of issues and enquiries. Also at the heart of the role are duties which include overseeing security, fire prevention, being a first aid responder and monitoring health and safety for what is a 365 days-a-year operation.

A full-time post, this role averages 37.5 a week across a shift system involving 4-day shifts (of just over 10 hours) on, followed by 4 off, which means that working on some weekend days is a requirement. The post is paid at spine point 35 of the University’s Single salary spine, which currently equates to £32,722 per annum. This post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme, with an employer contribution rate of 14.5%. Holiday entitlement is to 24 shifts off (which is the equivalent of 33 office days per year and is inclusive of bank holidays), a day of paid leave on your birthday, a free meal when on duty, free car parking when available and free use of the College’s gym facilities.
