What they need
Senior Power Systems Engineer
Battery & Energy Storage Systems (ESS) · NuEnergy Storage Technologies
About the role
NuEnergy Storage Technologies is hiring a Senior Power Systems Engineer to design, integrate and commission battery energy storage systems, from data center BBU rack systems to grid-scale BESS. You will own the electrical design of our storage projects from concept through energization, working closely with customers, utilities and field teams.
Responsibilities
- Design BESS electrical systems: single-line diagrams, DC/AC architecture, protection, grounding and equipment sizing.
- Design and integrate rack-level BBUs for data centers (OCP Open Rack V3, 48 V and HVDC), sized for hold-up time, AI/GPU loads and N+1/2N redundancy.
- Coordinate BBUs with UPS, generators, switchgear and ATS/STS so backup transfers are seamless.
- Develop front-of-meter and behind-the-meter storage for grid services, peak shaving, demand response and data center backup.
- Integrate BMS, PCS/inverters, UPS and EMS/SCADA controls, and define operating modes.
- Run power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination, harmonics).
- Lead FAT/SAT testing, field commissioning and troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis.
- Prepare utility interconnection packages and ensure NEC, UL, IEEE and NFPA compliance.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical or Power Engineering.
- [3–5]+ years in power systems, with BESS, BBU/UPS, data center or grid project experience.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion systems (LFP, NMC), BMS and inverter/PCS operation.
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, PSS/E or similar, and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Familiarity with NEC 706/705, UL 9540, UL 1973, NFPA 855 and IEEE 1547.
Preferred
- PE license or EIT.
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centers and OCP specifications.
- Experience with utility-scale BESS (10 MW+) or grid-forming inverters.
- Knowledge of Modbus, CAN and DNP3; Python or MATLAB for modeling.
- NFPA 70E arc flash training.
