Job Description
What impact you’ll make
As a Senior Principal Engineer for Power Systems, you serve as a global technical authority within GE Vernova’s Advanced Research Center. You are responsible for steering the long-term technical direction of GE Vernova’s power and electrification portfolio. You will operate at the enterprise scale, defining the "state-of-the-art" for the organization, driving the adoption of exponential technologies, and serving as the primary architect for multi-generational product strategies that directly influence the company’s ability to meet its 2035 revenue goals.
Essential Responsibilities
- Define the multi-year technology vision for GE Vernova. You will translate global energy challenges into actionable, enterprise-wide research programs that ensure competitive dominance in grid, renewables, and electrification.
- Act as the technical authority for high-stakes grid innovations. Oversee the maturation of breakthrough technologies, ensuring alignment between lab-scale feasibility and industrial-scale deployment.
- Mobilize global networks, including government bodies, industry consortia, and strategic partners, to shape external technology landscapes. Represent GE Vernova in high-level technical forums and set the agenda for industry-wide standards.
- Serve as a primary Change Agent. You will systematically dismantle legacy silos, foster an "One Team" culture, and drive the adoption of new methodologies (including AI integration) to accelerate research throughput and improve operational excellence.
- Elevate the organization’s collective intelligence by mentoring Engineers. You are responsible for creating the next generation of technical leadership by fostering an environment of scientific integrity and high-impact accountability.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) with 20+ years of industry-recognized experience or equivalent record of sustained, exceptional technical contributions.
- Proven ability to define and deliver on 5–10 year technology roadmaps that have demonstrably moved the needle on organization-critical objectives.
- Demonstrated mastery in designing enterprise-scale power system architectures including power system operations, controls, protection, and grid dynamics. Proven ability to scale lab-scale developments (e.g., hardware-in-the-loop, PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink) to field implementation with a focus on grid reliability, decarbonization, and energy security
- Proven record of leading large research programs, writing successful R&D proposals, and taking concepts to product introduction
Desired Characteristics
- Consistently exhibit curiosity, scientific integrity, humility, transparency, and focus
- Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, challenge legacy thinking, and share lessons learned to strengthen collective capability
- Grow best teams for the hardest problems, act as a strategic mentor, and foster cross-organizational collaboration
- Demonstrate ability to translate strategy into specific goals and ensure electrical technology roadmaps link to business objectives and customer vision
