Senior Principal Software Engineer, Vertica

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will shape the technical direction of a mission-critical database platform, with a strong focus on core engine architecture and advanced systems performance. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and market stakeholders to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions. The position requires deep expertise in distributed database systems, where your work will directly influence reliability, efficiency, and long-term platform evolution.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $143,000 – $193,050 annually

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert across core server areas, including query optimization and distributed execution
• Define technical direction and architecture for critical database components
• Synthesize customer requirements, market trends, and engineering input into product direction
• Advise on architectural decisions related to scalability, performance, and reliability
• Research state-of-the-art database algorithms and evaluate them for practical application
• Identify and deliver foundational enhancements that improve performance and operational efficiency
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence across the organization

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience, with a focus on complex systems software
• Expertise in database engine domains such as query optimization, execution, storage, concurrency, and distributed systems
• Proficiency in C++ and performance-oriented systems programming
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and multi-threaded programming
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems, with a solid grasp of SQL and relational database technology
