What they need
About Ternary
Ternary is a cutting-edge energy innovation startup based in Auckland and Christchurch. Our goal is to eliminate diesel from heavy industry by solving the energy-density and logistical issues that plague battery technologies and green alternatives such as hydrogen currently.
We are developing an electrocatalytic technology that unlocks a liquid-storage medium for energy. This medium is safe, high-density, cost-competitive with diesel and zero-emission when processed with Ternary's novel technology.
Ternary is seeking a senior production engineer with a practical, hands-on orientation to support the build out of manufacturing capability and processes for Ternary's novel electrocatalytic device.
The successful applicant will work closely with Ternary's VP Engineering, and the engineering team, to ensure the product is developed with an eye towards volume manufacture. They will also develop in-house production capabilities as well as support establishing clear quality control processes and expectations with key suppliers. This role is initially a technical contributor role but has scope to transition into a leadership position as the scope of production activity grows.
Scope of Work
- Contribute to a world class health & safety at work culture
- Collaborate closely with Development Engineering to drive Design for Manufacturability early in the design phase
- Research and apply existing best practise and manufacturing technologies in the domain of electrochemical device manufacture.
- Lead the development and introduction of processes and equipment associated with early prototype builds and highlight key process and equipment improvement opportunities throughout the prototype builds themselves
- Develop production processes with an eye toward scalability, considering cost and efficiency against time to deploy.
- Strategize and plan production line development and deployment to support continuously increasing scale.
- Drive tooling design and development in accordance with the process plan and GD&T strategy
- Ensure new production processes are designed to ensure safety while maximizing yield, capacity, and cost effectiveness
- Develop NPI processes and set in place best practises for rolling products out to production.
- Lead and mentor other production engineers
- Maintain a sense of ownership over all aspects of product quality, from design through to finished product QA.
