What they need

  • The Business Systems & Tooling (BS&T) team builds and operates the internal systems that power Betterment’s B2B businesses — from Salesforce and its surrounding integrations to the tooling that connects our sales, service, and advisor workflows to the Betterment platform itself
  • Because Betterment sells across multiple lines of business, our sales tech stack has to reflect that complexity: it’s not one product and one funnel, but a set of interconnected systems serving distinct teams with distinct needs
  • This role owns the interface between BS&T and its stakeholders
  • You’ll embed deeply within stakeholder teams — attending their meetings, learning their day-to-day workflows, and understanding their upcoming priorities — so that BS&T can proactively identify opportunities rather than waiting for problems to arrive as tickets
  • You’ll then bring that context back to the team, partnering with our engineering leads and architects to translate stakeholder needs into well-scoped tasks and clear, communicated roadmaps
  • Embed with stakeholder teams across our lines of business, attending their regular meetings and building a working knowledge of their processes, tools, and pain points
  • Proactively surface opportunities for tooling improvements, automation, and best practices — bringing ideas to stakeholders rather than waiting to be handed a problem
  • Maintain a continuously updated view of each stakeholder group’s upcoming priorities and how they map to BS&T’s capacity and roadmap
  • Act as the first point of contact for new stakeholder requests, gathering context and framing the underlying need before work is committed
  • Partner with BS&T’s engineering lead and architects to translate stakeholder needs into scoped, documented tasks with clear success criteria
  • Own and communicate the BS&T roadmap, making prioritization decisions legible to stakeholders and aligning our planning rhythm with the rest of the company
  • Balance urgent stakeholder priorities against high-value quality-of-life improvements, ensuring compounding wins don’t get perpetually deferred
  • Run intake, backlog grooming, and status communication processes so the team’s work — and the reasoning behind it — is visible
  • Stay current on the salestech landscape, evaluating emerging tools and practices for fit with Betterment’s stack
  • Support vendor assessments, procurement, and renewal processes across our salestech vendors, partnering with Finance, Legal, and Security as needed
  • Help stakeholders evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs with a clear-eyed view of total cost, integration complexity, and maintenance burden

Benefits

  • Compensation & Ownership: Competitive, benchmarked salary. Equity for everyone, including new hire, performance, and refresher grants.

  • Retirement: 401(k) match from day one, including Student loan matching. Zero management fees.

  • Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. One Medical membership. Fertility and LGBTQIA+ transition support.

  • Time Away: Flexible time off. Paid parental leave for all parents. Four-week sabbatical in year six.

  • In-Office Culture & Flexibility: An in-person, collaborative culture, with no required office days during the summer and winter holidays.

  • Growth & Development: Free Coaching for everyone and continuous development.

  • Community & Care: Chef lunches, guest speakers, company gatherings, heritage celebrations, and seven Employee Resource Groups.

  • Employee Support: Dedicated benefits advocate and EAP access.

  • This role is ideal for someone who is energized by sitting between business teams and technical teams: fluent enough in each world to be trusted by both, and disciplined enough to turn ambiguity into a plan

  • Proactive by default: identifies opportunities and proposes solutions rather than operating purely on intake

  • Comfortable saying “not yet” — able to make prioritization tradeoffs transparent and keep stakeholder confidence even when their request isn’t next

  • Builds trust quickly with both business stakeholders and engineers, and communicates fluently with each in their own terms

  • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous stakeholder requests into scoped, prioritized, well-documented work

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and the surrounding GTM systems ecosystem (e.g., CPQ workflows, enrichment, engagement, and integration tooling) — enough to scope work credibly and ask the right questions, even if you don’t build in it yourself

  • Strong writer and documenter; believes that a decision isn’t made until it’s written down and shared

  • Experience at a company with a complex, multi-product go-to-market — where internal systems must integrate the CRM, adjacent salestech tools, and the product being sold itself

  • Thrives in a small team where process is yours to design, not inherited

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, business systems analysis, or a similar role sitting between business stakeholders and technical teams

  • Experience supporting vendor evaluation, procurement, or renewal processes is a strong plus

  • Exposure to marketing automation or martech platforms (e.g., Braze, HubSpot)

  • Familiarity with SQL or data analysis tools sufficient to self-serve answers about system and business data

  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry

  • We’ll take a few weeks to review all applications. If we’d like to spend more time with you, we’ll reach out to arrange next steps, which will include 3-4 sets of meetings with your future colleagues

  • In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions

  • On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process
