What they need

About Jerritt Canyon The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering leadership and technical oversight throughout the planning, design, execution, commissioning, and closeout of mining and mineral processing projects. This role works closely with project managers, engineering disciplines, construction teams, operations personnel, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will bring strong project engineering experience within the mining, minerals, metals, or heavy industrial sectors, with the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams and resolve complex engineering and project execution issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities for mining and mineral processing projects from conceptual design through commissioning and project closeout.
  • Provide technical leadership and coordination across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, process, environmental, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain engineering scopes, project specifications, design criteria, engineering deliverables, and technical documentation.
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, vendor documentation, and technical submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers to establish engineering schedules, budgets, milestones, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor engineering progress and identify potential schedule, cost, technical, and constructability risks.
  • Support development and management of project budgets, cost estimates, forecasts, change orders, and cost-control measures.
  • Work closely with construction teams to address field engineering issues, RFIs, design changes, technical queries, and constructability concerns.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces between mine infrastructure, material handling systems, processing facilities, utilities, tailings, water management, and associated infrastructure as applicable.
  • Manage engineering consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and other third-party technical resources.
  • Participate in equipment selection, procurement, technical bid evaluations, vendor meetings, and factory acceptance testing as required.
  • Support project risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID reviews, constructability reviews, design reviews, and other project assurance activities.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable mining regulations, environmental requirements, industry standards, company procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Support permitting and regulatory activities by providing required engineering documentation and technical information.
  • Participate in site visits, field inspections, commissioning activities, and startup support.
  • Assist with commissioning, performance testing, troubleshooting, and handover to operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project execution, operational reliability, maintainability, safety, and lifecycle cost.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, engineering recommendations, and management-level summaries.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering and project management capabilities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure engineering decisions consider worker safety, environmental stewardship, operational reliability, and long-term asset performance.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties. Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Project Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant mining, industrial, or construction project experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive engineering and project experience, with significant experience in the mining, minerals processing, metals, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading projects through multiple phases, including conceptual development, feasibility, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Experience working on mining infrastructure, processing facilities, material handling systems, utilities, mine facilities, or other major capital projects.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, and operations.
  • Experience working with engineering consultants, EPC/EPCM contractors, construction contractors, equipment suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with project schedules, budgets, cost control, change management, risk management, and technical issue resolution.
  • Strong understanding of mining project execution practices, engineering standards, construction methods, and project controls.
  • Experience working in operating mine environments and/or remote project sites is highly desirable.
  • Experience with commissioning and startup of mining or processing facilities is preferred.
