Step into a senior Structures leadership role with a growing civil contractor

We’re working with an established Christchurch civil contractor that is looking for a senior Project Manager with a strong structures background to take ownership of its structures division.
The current Structures Manager has stepped up into a broader role within the business, creating an opportunity for an experienced structures professional to take over the leadership of the division and build on the platform already in place.
This is much more than a traditional Project Manager position.

You’ll take ownership of the structures workload, provide technical and commercial leadership to the delivery team, contribute to winning new work and play a key role in growing the division.
The business already has experienced structures supervisors and foremen in place, along with strong project engineering and estimating support. What they need now is the senior person to bring that capability together and take ownership of the structures portfolio.

What you'll be responsible for

• Take ownership of structures projects from tender through to successful delivery.
• Lead the technical, commercial and contractual aspects of structures projects.
• Work closely with the Bid Manager and estimating team on upcoming opportunities.
• Lead the development of construction methodologies and tender submissions.
• Provide the technical credibility and practical insight required to win structures work.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities and actively contribute to securing new structures projects.
• Provide technical and commercial leadership to Project Engineers, Site Engineers and delivery teams.
• Oversee projects involving bridges, retaining walls, concrete structures, formwork, temporary works and post-tensioning.
• Work closely with the experienced site teams to ensure projects transition successfully from planning through to delivery.
• Help shape the future direction and growth of the structures division.

What we're looking for
This is a senior appointment, so we're looking for someone who can step into the role with credibility and make an immediate impact.

You'll ideally have:

• Significant experience delivering civil structures projects.
• Strong technical understanding of concrete structures, bridges, retaining walls, formwork, temporary works and/or post-tensioning.
• Previous experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, Contracts Manager or similar.
• Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
• Experience contributing to or leading tender submissions and construction methodologies.
• The confidence to represent the business with clients and consultants.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide project and site teams.
• A genuine interest in business development and winning new work.
• Ideally, an established network of relationships across the civil construction market.

This isn't designed as a step-up opportunity for someone looking to gain their first senior structures experience. The business is looking for someone who can take the reins, provide leadership and become the go-to person for Structures.

The opportunity

You'll be taking over an established structures function rather than starting from scratch.
There is an experienced site team around you, strong estimating capability and dedicated bid management support. The business is already winning and pursuing structures work, with further opportunities in the pipeline.
The opportunity is to take what is already there and grow it further.
As the structures workload continues to develop, there is also the potential for the role to evolve into a dedicated Structures / Divisional Manager position, with responsibility for leading an entire business stream.
