Senior Project Planner

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Project Controller & Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and controlling detailed project schedules, resource plans, progress reporting, and project controls across engineering, construction, mining, infrastructure, and related project environments.

This is a senior specialist role requiring extensive hands-on Primavera P6 experience, strong construction knowledge, and the ability to independently develop project programs from scope, drawings, procurement requirements, and construction methodology with minimal guidance.

The position will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to monitor progress, forecast resource requirements, identify schedule and commercial risks, forecast project outcomes, and support the preparation and substantiation of progress claims.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently develop, maintain, and control detailed project schedules using Primavera P6
• Translate engineering scope, drawings, procurement requirements, fabrication activities, and construction methodology into logical and achievable project programmes
• Establish and maintain work breakdown structures, activity logic, durations, calendars, milestones, constraints, and approved baseline schedules
• Develop and maintain resource-loaded schedules, manpower forecasts, resource histograms, and forward resource requirements across project activities
• Review resource demand against available capacity and work with project teams to identify resource constraints, peaks, shortfalls, and opportunities to optimise delivery
• Update and control project schedules using actual progress, remaining durations, percentage complete, forecast dates, and agreed data dates
• Analyse critical path, float, schedule variance, emerging delays, resource impacts, and risks to key project milestones
• Prepare look-ahead programmes, recovery schedules, revised forecasts, schedule narratives, and project controls reporting
• Prepare and support progress claims for engineering and project-based works, ensuring claimed progress is accurately substantiated against approved scope and project status
• Provide senior planning and project controls support to project managers, engineers, and client representatives, including identifying issues and recommending corrective actions

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

• Extensive experience in project planning, scheduling, and project controls within engineering, construction, mining, or related project environments
• Demonstrated advanced hands-on experience using Primavera P6 Professional or P6 EPPM (essential)
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and the ability to independently develop detailed project schedules from limited information and minimal guidance
• Previous experience working on mining-sector projects (essential)
• Strong understanding of critical path methodology, schedule logic, activity relationships, baselines, constraints, calendars, float, and progress measurement
• Demonstrated experience with resource loading, manpower planning, resource forecasting, and balancing project requirements against available resources
• Experience integrating engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities into project schedules
• Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, or supporting progress claims for engineering or project-based organisations
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, project scope, procurement information, and contractual project milestones
• Strong Microsoft Excel capability with excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to work autonomously with Australian project teams
