Join a major mission-critical infrastructure programme in Singapore, delivering protection studies, relay engineering and controls integration across large-scale electrical systems.

This is a hands-on engineering role combining power-system modelling, protection and relay configuration, substation automation, design assurance and technical coordination from design through commissioning and handover.

About the role

You will work client-side as a senior technical specialist across electrical protection, controls, relay engineering and power-system analysis.

The role will involve developing models and studies, configuring protection and automation systems, reviewing complex electrical designs and working closely with consultants, contractors, vendors and internal technical teams to resolve engineering issues and improve system performance.

You will work with technologies including ETAP, PSCAD, Siemens SIPROTEC 5 / DIGSI 5 and SEL protection and automation platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power-system models and conduct electrical studies using ETAP and PSCAD.
• Configure, programme and test Siemens SIPROTEC 5 numerical protection relays using DIGSI 5.
• Programme, configure and integrate SEL protection relays and RTAC automation controllers.
• Configure and maintain SCD files within substation automation environments.
• Develop grounding calculations, CT/VT sizing, voltage-drop calculations and associated protection studies.
• Support protection coordination, relay settings and controls-integration activities.
• Support the development and improvement of electrical solutions across switchgear, transformers, energy storage, microgrids and large-scale AC/DC infrastructure.
• Review and challenge drawings, design documentation and vendor submissions for technical quality, coordination and compliance.
• Identify technical improvements around reliability, cost, programme, energy efficiency and operational performance.
• Provide clear technical input during design meetings and help consultants, contractors and specialist vendors resolve complex engineering issues.
• Support defect resolution, punch-list closure and final inspections through project handover.
• Contribute to updates of owner specifications, programming documents and technical standards.
• Maintain technical issue trackers, controlled documentation and final project records.

What we’re looking for

You should bring a strong protection and controls engineering background, with experience across several of the following areas:

• Electrical protection and controls engineering.
• Power-system modelling and electrical studies.
• Protection coordination, relay settings and relay configuration.
• Siemens SIPROTEC 5 and DIGSI 5.
• SEL protection relays and automation controllers.
• CT/VT sizing, grounding and voltage-drop calculations.
• Substation automation and SCD-file configuration.
• Reviewing and challenging complex electrical designs and technical documentation.
• Working with consultants, contractors, vendors and multidisciplinary project teams.

You do not need to have worked with every product or platform listed above, but you should have strong hands-on protection and relay engineering experience and be comfortable working across complex power systems.

Useful experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• SEL-3530, SEL-3505, Grid Configurator or RTAC software.
• IEC 61850 and SCD-file configuration.
• ETAP and/or PSCAD power-system modelling.
• Data centres or other mission-critical facilities.
• Utilities, substations or grid infrastructure.
• Energy storage or microgrids.
• Large-scale AC/DC electrical systems.
• Owner-side or consultant-side design assurance.
• Developing technical standards, programming documents or standardised electrical solutions.
• IEC and ANSI/NEMA electrical standards.

Relevant backgrounds

Strong candidates may come from utilities, substations, protection-relay OEMs, grid consultancies, data centres, specialist electrical contractors or other mission-critical power environments.

This is a hands-on protection and controls engineering position requiring direct experience with protection studies, relay engineering and controls integration rather than a general electrical project-management role.
