What they need

Help Shape Quality Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing

Are you passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and maintaining the highest standards within a manufacturing environment?

At the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), we're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Technician to play a key role in supporting quality excellence across our workshop operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading research and technology organisations, helping to deliver world-class manufacturing innovation for customers across aerospace, automotive, defence, rail, construction, and many other sectors.

About MTC

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is a world-renowned research and development organisation that bridges the gap between academia and industry. As part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, we help manufacturers develop, test and implement cutting-edge technologies that improve productivity, capability and competitiveness. With world-class facilities and some of the brightest engineering minds in the industry, MTC offers a unique environment where innovation thrives.

The Role

As a Quality Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving workshop quality systems, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and supporting a strong culture of continuous improvement.

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineers, workshop teams and key stakeholders, you'll help drive quality performance through audits, non-conformance management, root cause analysis and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and reinforce compliance with quality standards, accreditations and workshop procedures.
  • Maintain workshop quality systems, including document control and calibration records.
  • Manage and coordinate non-conformance activities through to effective resolution.
  • Facilitate robust root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Plan and conduct internal quality audits and monitor action completion.
  • Track and report on key quality metrics and performance indicators.
  • Identify trends and improvement opportunities to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Promote a positive quality culture focused on accountability, learning and continuous improvement.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on manufacturing or engineering environment and takes pride in getting things right.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering or workshop environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and compliance frameworks such as ISO 9001.
  • Experience supporting non-conformance management and problem-solving activities.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and internal audits.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Desirable Attributes

  • Positive, proactive and solution-focused mindset.
  • Passion for quality and maintaining high standards.
  • Natural curiosity and willingness to challenge existing ways of working.
  • Interest in continuous improvement and process optimisation.
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders across workshop operations.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.

It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.

In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the ‘workshop’.

Over the following seven years the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.

We now have over 700 talented employees working with us.

During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.
