About Thompson's Group

We're looking for an exceptional Quantity Surveyor to take a leading role in the commercial management of our projects, reporting directly to our Directors. As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll lead the commercial management of a portfolio of high-end projects. You oversee financial performance, procurement, valuations, variations and subcontractor valuations, to ensure every project is delivered within budget and to the highest commercial standards. Your Role Will Involve:

• Leading the commercial management of a portfolio of high-end residential and heritage projects
• Preparing precise estimates, cost plans and tenders, with early cost advice and value engineering, creating a bill of quantities
• Leading procurement strategy and negotiating with our specialist subcontractors
• Administering JCT contracts to best practice, so every project starts on clear, fair terms
• Running monthly valuations, CVRs and cash flow forecasts that stand up to scrutiny
• Capturing, pricing and agreeing variations before they become problems
• Reporting monthly to the Directors on margin, risk and opportunity
• Closing out final accounts promptly, with a full audit trail
• Working hand in hand with our Project Manager, site teams, clients and consultants

What We're Looking For:

• 8+ years as a contractor-side Quantity Surveyor, running projects independently at senior level
• A strong background in high-end residential, heritage or listed building work
• In-depth, practical knowledge of JCT contracts will be an advantage
• A proven track record of accurate forecasting and tight cost control
• Excellent commercial acumen, with strong negotiation and analytical skills
• Exceptional organisation and meticulous attention to detail
• The confidence to lead, influence and challenge at all levels
• Full UK driving licence
• Bonus: MRICS or MCIOB, and experience of traditional building methods
