Senior R&D Chemist

We seek a chemist with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry to join our R&D team in Lockport, NY. Though our history is in the production of phosgene derivatives, we foresee expanding R&D capacities into new areas, and welcome applicants with a range of synthesis-heavy backgrounds.

Job Requirements and Abilities:

1. The hands-on syntheses of target compounds in our synthetic laboratories. The role is bench heavy and synthesis comprises the vast majority of each day. The role is 100% on site.

2. The evaluation of chemistries based on standard analytical techniques (GC, LC, IR, UV, etc.)

3. Adherence to strict safety standards and practices

4. The capacity and willingness to safely handle hazardous materials in prescribed chemistries

5. The ability to design synthetic schemes, identify raw materials, and appropriately plan synthetic steps

6. The ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines

7. The capacity to function independently on projects AND as part of a wider team with collective goals

Required Skills:

This is a senior position, offered to BA/BS/MS chemists with significant post-university experience or Ph. D. chemists with a significant background in lab-scale syntheses. We expect chemists to arrive with a firm basis in standard laboratory procedures including, but not limited to

· Handling of gaseous reagents

· Interpretation of standard analytical data (GC, LC, MS, NMR, etc.)

· The ability to understand experimental setup (glassware, tubing, agitation etc) and adapt these to fit the required chemistries

· The ability to safely handle hazardous materials in solid, liquid, and/or gas form

· A serious foundation in organic chemistry, with the capacity to discuss findings in the context of the science and offer reasonable explanations for observed phenomena

· The capacity to adapt to scales beyond the standard academic benchtop

· A constant respect for the expected chemical hygiene in the laboratory area and all required PPE

· We value a mechanical capacity and familiarity with the workings of standard laboratory equipment (pumps, cooling/heating systems, etc.)

· Should be able to lift and manipulate standard laboratory equipment (~25 lbs+)

Qualifications:

Solid chemistry background with a minimum BS in Chemistry and a minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred. Ph. D. candidates with no industry experience are expected to have significant synthetic experience as part of thesis work.

Expected Compensation Range: $85K – $145K dependent on experience and background

Pay: $85,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
