Senior Research Software Engineer

Role and responsibilities: The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, integration, commissioning, and maintenance of software solutions for industrial automation and robotic systems. The role includes PLC programming, system design and software architecture, GUI and HMI development, robotic system integration, machine vision, and integration of sensors, actuators, instruments, and other automation equipment. The engineer will develop machine control sequences, interlocks, alarms, motion control, data acquisition, and communication interfaces using industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, REST API, and serial communication. The role will also support the development of applications and integration software using Python, C#, C++, JavaScript, Structured Text, or other suitable programming languages. Responsibilities include system testing, debugging, FAT/SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, software upgrades, and ongoing support for existing systems. The engineer will work closely with mechanical, electrical, robotics, and project teams to establish robust and scalable system architectures, develop reusable software modules and standards, maintain technical documentation and version control, and support the efficient delivery of both existing and future automation projects.

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience in software development or industrial automation.
• Strong experience in PLC programming, industrial automation, and machine control.
• Proficient in Python, C#, C++, JavaScript, or equivalent programming languages.
• Experience in system architecture and software design.
• Experience in GUI/HMI development.
• Experience integrating robots, PLCs, vision systems, and industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET).
• Experience in software testing, debugging, commissioning, and system integration.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Good communication and technical documentation skills.
