Senior Reservoir Engineer

Dallas, TX (in-office) | Full-Time, Exempt | Business Operations Team

About EQV

The EQV Group is a fully integrated investor-operator platform focused on the acquisition, management, and optimization of predictable, cash-flowing oil and gas assets across the traditional energy spectrum.

Today, EQV operates more than 2,500 oil and gas properties across the U.S. Lower 48, has completed more than $2 billion in upstream transactions, and is supported by a team of more than 80 professionals. Through a disciplined acquisition strategy and integrated operating model, EQV combines investment expertise with in-house operations to maximize asset performance and create long-term value.

As EQV continues to grow through strategic acquisitions, we are seeking talented professionals who value leadership, accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Position Summary

EQV is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to perform technical evaluations that support investment team efforts and portfolio company oversight. This role generates and validates the technical and operating assumptions that underlie financial models and investment decisions, with a particular focus on identifying and quantifying technical risk and uncertainty across upstream acquisitions.

The Senior Reservoir Engineer serves as a key technical partner to Deal Teams, portfolio company management, and third-party consultants, translating complex reservoir and operating data into clear conclusions that support decision-making at all levels of the organization, from technical peers to fund investors.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Evaluation & Forecasting

  • Generate and validate forecasts and valuations that predict future operating and economic performance from the interpretation and integration of offset well data, geologic maps, operating trends, asset history, and analogous activity
  • Apply reservoir engineering methodologies including decline curve analysis (DCA), rate and pressure transient analysis (RTA/PTA), volumetrics, recovery, and fluid behavior
  • Identify and quantify technical risk and uncertainty across evaluations, ensuring conclusions reflect the full range of possible outcomes
  • Evaluate plays at various stages of maturity, spanning conventional and unconventional assets across the U.S. Lower 48

Deal Team Integration & Investment Analysis

  • Integrate with Deal Teams to support acquisition and investment decisions, providing technical evaluation and validation of the operating and economic assumptions underlying financial models
  • Support A&D evaluation across the full lifecycle, including pre-close diligence and post-close monitoring of asset and investment performance
  • Contribute technical perspectives to investment recommendations, risk assessments, and go/no-go decisions

Portfolio Company & Consultant Management

  • Establish rapport with portfolio company management and monitor the performance of investments post-close
  • Select and manage outside technical resources and consultants, ensuring quality of work product and appropriate scope
  • Share best practices across portfolio companies and Deal Teams, including with other technical team members

Communication & Reporting

  • Communicate technical conclusions effectively to non-technical colleagues, investment committees, and other stakeholders
  • Represent the technical function to fund investors, including participation in investor updates and technical reviews
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and supporting materials that translate complex reservoir data into actionable insights

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of reservoir engineering experience, preferably weighted to the U.S. Lower 48
  • Early-career reservoir engineering at an active operator, including completion of a company-directed training program and hands-on asset management
  • A&D evaluation in a setting that required monitoring and management of the asset or investment after close
  • Experience evaluating plays at various stages of maturity
  • Reservoir engineering expertise including decline curve analysis (DCA), rate and pressure transient analysis (RTA/PTA), volumetrics, recoveries, and fluid behavior
  • Working proficiency in ComboCurve, ARIES, and Spotfire
  • Experience working with public data (aggregators such as Enverus or IHS, or directly from state regulatory databases)
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and understanding of statistics, risk, and how multiple variables affect outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with a buy-side investment firm or an acquisitive operating team
  • Experience in an investment bank or engineering consulting firm
  • A mix of conventional and unconventional reservoir experience
  • SQL and Python proficiency
  • Advanced degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline

What You'll Bring

The right candidate is a technically deep reservoir engineer who can hit the ground running and contribute immediately. You're committed to the oil and gas technical discipline and to quality work product, driven by a strong desire to find the correct answer, and disciplined about sourcing and incorporating all pertinent data into your decision-making process. You bring the experience, maturity, and disposition to work adeptly at all levels internally, from junior technical team members to fund investors, and you're a natural consensus builder who is responsive, collaborative, and fair-minded. You take an entrepreneurial approach to the work, exercising sound judgment on when to resolve issues independently and when to bring others in.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off plus company-observed holidays

How to Apply
