Senior Risk Analyst

We are looking for a Senior Risk Analyst to join our Risk team and help manage risk across a diverse portfolio of merchant acquiring relationships.

This role focuses on merchant underwriting, portfolio monitoring, fraud and chargeback risk, high-risk merchant reviews, and payment industry compliance. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in merchant acquiring or payment processing and is comfortable making independent, well-informed risk decisions.

You will work closely with Risk, Sales, Relationship Management, Compliance, Legal, Fraud Operations, and other teams to balance effective risk management with business growth. Placement within the posted salary range will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and skills.

Responsibilities:

• Perform merchant re-underwriting, enhanced due diligence, and periodic risk reviews.
• Evaluate merchant business models, ownership, financials, processing activity, fulfillment practices, and operational controls.
• Monitor merchant portfolios for emerging fraud, financial, operational, and compliance risks.
• Analyze processing trends, chargebacks, fraud, refunds, volumes, ticket sizes, and other risk indicators.
• Investigate suspicious activity and recommend appropriate risk mitigation, including enhanced monitoring, reserves, restrictions, or account termination.
• Review higher-risk merchants and industries and determine appropriate underwriting requirements.
• Prepare clear risk assessments and recommendations for management.
• Maintain working knowledge of Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover rules and requirements.
• Partner with Compliance and Legal on KYC/KYB, AML, OFAC, and other applicable requirements.
• Collaborate with Sales, Relationship Management, Fraud, Operations, and Product teams on merchant risk decisions.
• Help improve risk policies, procedures, controls, and monitoring processes.
• Support and mentor other members of the Risk team.

Qualifications:

Required

• 3–5+ years of experience in merchant acquiring, payment processing, merchant underwriting, payments risk, fraud risk, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of merchant acquiring and payment processing.
• Experience evaluating both Card Present (CP) and Card Not Present (CNP) merchants.
• Experience with merchant underwriting, risk reviews, fraud, chargebacks, or portfolio monitoring.
• Strong analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred

• Experience with higher-risk merchants or industries.
• Working knowledge of Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover requirements.
• Sponsor bank experience.
• Experience with merchant risk, fraud, or chargeback platforms.
• Data analytics experience.
• Financial statement analysis experience.
• KYC/OFAC screening or PCI DSS experience.
• Working knowledge of TSYS systems (CBOS).
• Relevant certifications such as CAMS, CFE, AAP, CPP, or PCIP.
