Software Security Architect

The Opportunity

An innovative technology organisation is looking for a Software Security Architect to lead the development and implementation of security architecture across a portfolio of complex software products.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of software security strategy, influence technical direction and work closely with engineering teams to ensure security is embedded throughout the product development lifecycle.

You will combine architectural expertise with practical engineering knowledge, helping to establish robust security standards, improve development processes and manage technical risks across a range of products. The role offers the opportunity to work across multiple engineering disciplines, with responsibility for driving security best practice from initial design through to ongoing product maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Security Strategy: Define and maintain the software security roadmap, setting priorities and establishing consistent security requirements across products and platforms.
• Secure Development: Embed security principles, threat modelling and risk assessments into software design and development workflows.
• Architecture & Design: Provide technical guidance on secure system design, identity management, access controls, cryptography, data protection and platform security.
• Engineering Standards: Develop reusable architecture patterns, coding standards and engineering guidelines to improve security and consistency.
• Risk Management: Identify, assess and prioritise vulnerabilities, technical risks and security debt, ensuring appropriate remediation plans are implemented.

What We're Looking For

• A relevant technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience in software security architecture, product security or secure software engineering.
• A strong software engineering and architecture background, with experience working across complex products or platforms.
• Good understanding of secure development methodologies, threat modelling, vulnerability management and security testing.
• Experience implementing security controls within development environments and CI/CD pipelines.
• The ability to evaluate technical risks, make informed architectural decisions and communicate trade-offs effectively.
• Confidence influencing senior engineers and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with complex software platforms or hardware-integrated systems.
• Knowledge of Linux-based systems and/or mobile operating system architecture.
• Familiarity with secure communications, encryption and system hardening.
• Understanding of relevant security standards, assurance frameworks and product security regulations.
• Experience managing vulnerabilities and maintaining security across supported software versions.
• Relevant security or architecture certifications.
