What they need

Love solving problems? Take pride in getting things working again? We want to talk to you.

At TELSCO Security Systems, we believe the real value of a security system isn't just in the equipment we install. It's in the people who stand behind it. We're a well-established, 100% local Edmonton security company providing customized electronic security solutions to residential and commercial customers in Edmonton, Alberta.

We're growing and looking for an experienced Security Service Technician who genuinely enjoys troubleshooting, solving technical problems, and delivering great customer service.

This is a SERVICE-focused position. You'll spend your days diagnosing problems, repairing and maintaining systems, helping customers, and making sure their security solutions continue to operate as intended. If you're the kind of technician who enjoys figuring out why something isn't working, takes ownership of the solution, and feels good leaving a customer with everything working properly, you'll fit right in.

What You'll Be Doing

Your primary responsibility will be servicing and supporting existing electronic security systems at residential and commercial customer locations.

  • Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Identify and resolve technical issues with intrusion alarms, CCTV/video surveillance, access control, and integrated security systems.
  • Repair & Maintain: Perform service calls, system repairs, component replacements, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
  • Program & Configure: Troubleshoot and program security panels, communication equipment, video recorders, cameras, access controllers, and connected devices.
  • Work With Existing Systems: Diagnose both newer technologies and older security platforms, determining practical solutions for equipment that may have been installed years ago.
  • Support Customers: Explain technical issues clearly, provide customer training, and ensure customers understand the work completed.
  • Document Your Work: Maintain accurate service records, troubleshooting notes, and recommendations for follow-up work.
  • Collaborate With the Team: Communicate with dispatch, technical support, and other team members to deliver a smooth customer experience.
  • Work Safely: Follow company safety practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements.

What We're Looking For

Technical Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting electronic security systems.
  • Strong knowledge of intrusion alarms, CCTV/video surveillance, and access control systems.
  • Proven ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience with platforms such as DSC, Honeywell, Kantech, PDK, Hikvision, OpenEye, Alarm.com.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, switches, routers, connectivity, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems, wiring, programming, and commissioning.
  • Comfortable working with computers, mobile applications, cloud-connected devices, and emerging security technologies.

Experience with the following would be an asset:

  • Alarm.com and interactive security platforms
  • OpenEye video management systems
  • Kantech or other access control platforms
  • Integrated intrusion, video, and access control solutions
  • ULC standards and requirements

Beyond Technical Skills, We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Loves troubleshooting. You enjoy the challenge of diagnosing an issue, even when the answer isn't immediately obvious.
  • Takes ownership. You follow through, communicate clearly, and take pride in seeing problems resolved.
  • Works independently. You're comfortable managing service calls, making decisions, and adapting throughout the day.
  • Cares about customers. You understand that people rely on their security systems and appreciate someone who is patient, professional, and helpful.
  • Pays attention to the details. You believe proper testing, documentation, and quality workmanship are essential.
  • Stays curious. You're comfortable learning new technologies while maintaining knowledge of older equipment.
  • Works well with others. You communicate openly and support your teammates when needed.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable clean Canadian driving/insurance history.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal record check.
  • Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call service rotation.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta as required.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and professional customer service.

As a member of our service team, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work with a well-established, locally based Edmonton company.
  • Enjoy variety, with different customers, systems, and technical challenges.
  • Work with both established security technologies and newer cloud-connected platforms.
