What they need
Senior Service & Installation Technician
USI Integrated Solutions | United Security, Inc. (USI)
Position Summary
The Senior Service & Installation Technician — Integrated Security Solutions reports to the SVP of Operations and serves as the division’s senior hands-on technical resource. This role owns system design, programming, and scope-of-work execution across USI’s integrated security engagements — access control, video surveillance/VMS, intercom, and intrusion — working in partnership with the Technology Solutions Manager at every stage to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to specification. USI’s installation scope ends at the rack; network and IT infrastructure beyond the rack is owned by the client’s IT organization or provider. The Senior Technician is the technical standard-bearer in the field: the person clients, subcontractors, and junior technicians look to for how systems are engineered, installed, programmed, and commissioned the right way.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Engineering
In partnership with the Technology Solutions Manager; design standards and major design decisions overseen by the SVP of Operations.
- Lead technical design for integrated security systems — device selection, system architecture, network topology (to the rack), head-end layout, and pathway planning — translating client requirements and site surveys into buildable designs, drawings, and bills of material.
- Validate design assumptions, labor estimates, and equipment lists during estimating and proposal development, supporting the Technology Solutions Manager and the Sales & Marketing Team.
- Conduct site walks and security technology assessments as technical lead, jointly with the Technology Solutions Manager where client-facing.
- Ensure subcontracted scopes — such as fiber and other specialty infrastructure — are identified and fully covered in quotes and subcontractor scopes of work; these scopes are performed by subcontractors, not self-performed.
Programming & Commissioning
- Program, configure, and commission access control, VMS/CCTV, intercom, and intrusion platforms, including cross-platform integration, and validate end-to-end functionality.
- Own final testing, punch-list resolution, client training, and as-built/closeout documentation, in partnership with the Technology Solutions Manager on service handoff.
- Maintain manufacturer certifications on USI’s core platforms, including firmware and cybersecurity hardening practices.
Field Execution & Project Collaboration
In partnership with the Technology Solutions Manager; operational risks and change-order conditions escalated to the SVP of Operations.
- Execute assigned scopes of work in the field to design documents, code requirements, and USI quality standards, coordinating daily with the Technology Solutions Manager on sequencing, staffing, material readiness, and schedule.
- Provide technical direction and quality oversight to in-house technicians and subcontractor crews, verifying work-in-place against scope and supporting change-order pricing and client walk-throughs.
Service & Support
- Serve as senior escalation resource for complex service calls — hardware, software, network (to the rack), and integration issues — through resolution.
- Ensure recurring service teams inherit complete documentation, credentials, and configuration records at closeout, supporting USI’s target of 100% client retention.
Team Development & Knowledge Transfer
- Mentor and train technicians on installation, programming, and commissioning; document configurations and repeatable procedures to reduce single-point-of-failure risk.
Compliance & Professionalism
- Maintain 100% compliance with multi-state licensing, permitting, and code requirements (CT, NY, NJ, MA, RI); keep accurate records of work, time, and materials; care for assigned equipment, tools, and vehicle.
- Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders, subcontractors, and clients, adapting technical detail to the audience.
Collaboration & Oversight
- Technology Solutions Manager: day-to-day partner across all key items — design, estimating, field execution, and closeout. The two roles operate as one delivery team, not separate tracks.
- SVP of Operations: direct reporting line; approves designs and standards, resolves operational and resource escalations, and reviews change-order conditions.
- Sales & Marketing Team: partners on estimating, proposals, and client-facing assessments; the Senior Technician provides technical validation supporting sales pursuits and cross-selling of converged offerings.
- Cybersecurity: on engagements that include cybersecurity overlap, coordinates hand-offs between physical security and cyber; our partners deliver the cyber scope of work.
