Senior Shopify Backend Developer (Node.js, Shopify Plus Apps)

Adella is a US-based ecommerce agency that builds and runs Shopify and Shopify Plus stores for US brands. We are hiring a senior backend engineer to own the server side of those builds: custom apps, integrations, data migrations and checkout logic.

The basics, up front

• Full-time and remote from anywhere in India.
• Engage as an independent contractor or as an employee. Tell us which you prefer.
• Competitive pay, paid monthly in INR.
• Working hours: 4 to 5 hours overlapping US Pacific business hours, about 8:30 pm to 1:30 am IST.
• Process: screening questions, a short written technical questionnaire, then one live technical call with our leadership team.

What you will do

• Build and maintain custom Shopify apps with the Shopify CLI, the React Router app template, App Bridge and Polaris.
• Write Shopify Functions for discount, delivery and payment customizations, and build Checkout UI extensions with our front-end developer.
• Integrate stores with ERPs, OMS, CRMs, subscription and payment platforms (Recharge, Klaviyo, NetSuite and others) through APIs, webhooks and middleware.
• Run replatforming projects from Magento, WooCommerce, OpenCart and custom platforms: products, customers, orders, redirects and SEO continuity.
• Model client data with metafields and metaobjects, and automate operations with Shopify Flow and the Admin GraphQL API.
• Write technical specs and estimates, review code, and support launches with logging and error tracking.

Required

• 5+ years of backend development, including 2+ years building on Shopify or Shopify Plus.
• Strong Node.js and TypeScript; REST and GraphQL API design.
• Deep Shopify Admin GraphQL API knowledge: bulk operations, rate limits, webhooks, app auth (OAuth, session tokens), app extensions.
• Shopify Functions and Checkout Extensibility shipped to live stores.
• Large data migrations with Matrixify or your own scripts.
• SQL, an ORM such as Prisma, and background jobs and queues.
• Cloud deployment (AWS, GCP, Fly.io or similar), Docker, CI/CD and Git.
• Clear written English. You will explain trade-offs directly to US clients.

Nice to have

• PHP and Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce.
• Shopify B2B, Markets, and Hydrogen / Oxygen headless builds.
• Celigo, Make or Zapier; HubSpot or Zoho.
• Agency experience across several concurrent clients.
