About the Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy in Manhattan is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer / Technical Director to lead site civil design projects, guide a team of engineers, and support the continued growth of its civil engineering practice.

This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced civil engineer who combines strong technical design capabilities with project management, team leadership, and client-facing experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex projects while helping develop the team, strengthen client relationships, and identify new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of site civil engineering projects from initial concept through final construction documents.
• Oversee site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, and erosion and sediment control plans.
• Review engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and construction documents to ensure quality and compliance with applicable standards.
• Manage multiple projects, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and coordination with clients and project stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality control for junior and mid-level engineers and design staff.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical, structural, environmental, surveying, and transportation professionals.
• Maintain client relationships and participate in project meetings, presentations, and technical discussions.
• Support business development through proposal preparation, client development, identifying new opportunities, and contributing to the growth of the civil engineering practice.
• Help establish design standards, improve workflows, and develop the team's technical capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Master's preferred.
• Significant experience in site civil engineering design, ideally with a background in consulting engineering.
• Strong technical knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, and site development.
• Experience managing engineering projects and reviewing the work of other design professionals.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers while remaining technically involved in project delivery.
• Strong communication skills and experience working directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and relevant design software.
• Business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship experience preferred.
