About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Control Engineer to join our dynamic team at our Batu Kawan facility in Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a critical strategic role in the development and implementation of advanced software control systems. You will be responsible for leading the technical direction of our control engineering projects, ensuring that solutions are robust, scalable and aligned with industry standards. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex automation challenges whilst mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth and innovation of Estek Automation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement advanced software control systems for industrial automation applications
• Lead the technical architecture and design of control solutions, ensuring they meet project specifications and performance requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, project managers and clients to understand requirements and deliver integrated solutions
• Conduct code reviews, quality assurance testing and troubleshooting to ensure software reliability and optimal performance
• Mentor and supervise junior software engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering professional development within the team
• Document technical specifications, system designs and implementation procedures to maintain comprehensive project records
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in industrial control systems and automation
• Support the installation, commissioning and training phases of control system deployments at client sites
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes and methodologies within the organisation

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in software control engineering or a similar role within the industrial automation sector
• Advanced proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python or IEC 61131-3 (PLC programming)
• Strong experience with SCADA systems, HMI development and real-time control systems
• Demonstrated expertise in industrial communication protocols including Modbus, CANbus, Profibus or Ethernet/IP
• Proven experience with control system platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff or similar PLC/DCS systems
• Solid understanding of control theory, systems integration and automation principles
• Experience with software development tools, version control systems and agile development methodologies
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Leadership experience and a proven track record of mentoring and developing junior team members
• Professional certification in relevant areas (such as certified automation professional qualifications) is desirable
