Senior Software Control Engineer

About the role

Estek Automation Sdn Bhd is seeking a Senior Software Control Engineer to join our team at our Batu Kawan facility in Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a strategic role in the development and implementation of control systems for our manufacturing and assembly operations. As a Senior Software Control Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and optimising sophisticated control software that drives our automated production processes. This role is critical to ensuring our manufacturing operations run efficiently, safely and reliably, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and output.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced control software and algorithms for automated manufacturing and assembly systems
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to integrate control systems with hardware components
• Programme, test and troubleshoot industrial control systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
• Optimise existing control systems to improve production efficiency, cycle times and product quality
• Document technical specifications, design documentation and standard operating procedures for control systems
• Conduct testing and validation of control software to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and production teams
• Identify and implement improvements to control systems based on performance data and operational feedback
• Maintain and upgrade legacy control systems whilst implementing new technologies
• Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements and company quality protocols

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in software control engineering or industrial automation
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including C, C++, Python and/or ladder logic programming
• Extensive experience with PLC programming and configuration (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi or equivalent)
• Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI (Human Machine Interface) development and industrial communication protocols
• Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded systems development
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex control system projects from concept to implementation
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly line operations and Industry 4.0 principles
• Professional certifications in industrial automation or control systems (preferred)
• Experience with version control systems, software testing frameworks and agile development methodologies (preferred)
