Senior Software Developer - Laravel / PHP

Context

ToldUntold is a SaaS platform that trains retail teams by leveraging the feed and video habits people already have from apps like Netflix and TikTok. The company builds branded mobile and web apps, the tooling that fills them with content, and a set of in-house AI features. Their clients include enterprise and luxury brands in Europe and Mainland China. The team is small and senior, shipping fast with each member owning their work from start to finish. The team is remote, based in Paris and London.

Missions

• Build and ship the Laravel/PHP backend and APIs behind mobile and web apps.
• Own features from technical design through testing, release, and production monitoring.
• Work within a modular Laravel codebase (nwidart/laravel-modules), ensuring clean boundaries as most new work lives in its own module rather than the core.
• Use Claude and coding agents daily, deciding what to automate, review closely, or write manually.
• Maintain testing, security, and performance standards, including compliance with data residency requirements (EU and Mainland China).
• Integrate the platform with other stack components: SSO, third-party services, content and encoding pipelines, and AI features.
• Make sensible trade-offs appropriate for an early-stage company and communicate them clearly.

Tools & Environment

• Laravel 12 and PHP 8.4 backend, organized as a modular monolith.
• Databases: MySQL/MariaDB and PostgreSQL (with pgvector for AI features).
• Redis and Horizon for queues and background jobs.
• REST APIs consumed by Vue 3 / TypeScript web apps and branded iOS and Android builds (Capacitor).
• SSO via Okta, Azure AD, and SAML.
• Self-hosted open-source AI models on company GPUs, with request routing per region.
• Supporting services in Node.js for media encoding.
• Multi-region cloud infrastructure across the EU and Mainland China.

Working Conditions

• Remote position with the team located between Paris and London.
• Full-time, senior-level role reporting to the CTO and CPO.
• Compensation starts at €6,500 per month, with a review scheduled for early 2027.

1. Several years building and maintaining production Laravel/PHP, with a real command of the framework and modern PHP
2. Hands-on experience with Claude or similar AI coding tools, and the judgement to know when to lean on an agent and when not to
3. The ability to absorb a new codebase fast and turn it into shipped work
4. Comfort owning an area on your own, setting priorities and driving them to done without much hand-holding
5. A track record at an early-stage company, or clear signs you'll do well in one
6. You care about the product and the people, and you finish what you start
7. Clear written and spoken English
8. Nice to have: experience with mobile app backends, content or learning platforms
9. Nice to have: data-protection work including GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPL or China data residency
10. Nice to have: building or wiring up AI features such as RAG, transcription, translation, or search
11. Nice to have: Vue 3 / TypeScript
12. Nice to have: DevOps comfort including CI/CD, Docker, and observability
