What they need

Context

The EUROPE Digital & Technology Team at a leading global shipping and logistics company is accountable for end‑to-end IT services across the EU Regional Office. Working closely with regional business stakeholders, IT teams, and Head Office, the team partners with the business to identify, develop, and deploy secure and reliable digital solutions aligned with enterprise standards.

In the European region, the team frequently operates in a transitional delivery context, where global products and platforms are still under development, not yet available, or not yet ready for regional deployment. To respond to immediate business needs, the team delivers regional, interim solutions that provide fast business value while remaining aligned with future global direction.

This environment requires Software Engineers who can combine strong technical expertise with pragmatism and delivery focus. Solutions must be developed rapidly, securely, and with sufficient quality while ensuring maintainability and future integration with enterprise platforms. The emphasis is on business value, speed of delivery, and fit-for-purpose implementation rather than unnecessary complexity or over-engineering.

The Europe Digital & Technology team is currently managing a significant portfolio of regional digital initiatives requiring the rapid delivery of web applications, integrations, and process automation solutions. To accelerate delivery, reduce dependency on external development resources and global product roadmaps, and respond more quickly to evolving business needs, we are strengthening our software engineering capabilities. We are therefore looking for a hands-on Software Engineer who can rapidly design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain regional applications and digital solutions. Working closely with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Solution Architects, and business stakeholders across Europe, the Software Engineer will play a key role in increasing delivery capacity, shortening time-to-market, and enabling faster deployment of business solutions while ensuring scalability, security, maintainability, and alignment with company standards and future global platforms.

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining software applications that support the company’s regional operations. This position participates in the full software development lifecycle, ensuring that solutions are reliable, secure, and aligned with business goals. Working closely with IT leadership, business stakeholders, and global teams, the Software Engineer translates business needs into innovative, scalable technology solutions that improve efficiency and system performance.

Missions

In the role of Software Engineer you will:

  • Analyse business and functional requirements and translate them into robust, implementation-ready technical solutions that support regional business objectives.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy applications, APIs, integrations, and automation solutions using modern frameworks, programming languages, and software development best practices.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) from design through deployment and support, ensuring solutions remain secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Develop and maintain databases, queries, and integrations to ensure system performance, data integrity, and operational reliability.
  • Support and enhance existing regional applications, quickly identifying root causes of technical issues and implementing pragmatic, sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Solution Architects, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions within short delivery cycles and evolving business priorities.
  • Apply Agile development practices, version control, and CI/CD principles to support efficient development, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Produce concise technical documentation sufficient to support implementation, maintenance, and knowledge transfer, avoiding unnecessary detail when it does not add delivery value. Inspired by the European BA and Solution Architect approach.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives, including process automation, cloud technologies, data-driven solutions, and digital transformation projects across the region.
  • Ensure solutions remain aligned with enterprise architecture, security standards, and future global platforms, while enabling fast regional delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear explanations, progress updates, technical recommendations, risks, and trade-offs.

The Software Engineer is expected to balance technical quality with speed, pragmatism, and business value, enabling rapid regional delivery while maintaining sufficient structure, security, and maintainability.

Tools & Environment

  • Modern frameworks and programming languages for web applications, APIs, integrations, and automation.
  • Agile development methodologies including SCRUM.
  • Version control and CI/CD platforms such as Git, Azure DevOps, Jenkins.
  • Cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or equivalent cloud-native technologies.
  • Database development and integration technologies including SQL.
  • Enterprise security standards and secure development practices.

Working Conditions

  • Contract duration: 3 months
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Location: Remote work possible within a compatible European time zone.
  • Occasional onsite presence may be requested for key workshops, alignment sessions, project kick-offs, implementation activities, or team meetings when relevant.
  • Full-time equivalent (FTE): 1
  • Seniority level: Confirmed / Senior
