Senior Software Engineer - Clojure/Datomic

Verified Metrics is a growing fintech company building software for financial analysis and due diligence.

We are a small, Clojure-first engineering team. We care about simple, thoughtful software, strong data models, and giving engineers real ownership of what they build.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Clojure experience to join our engineering team in Lisbon.

You’ll work closely with our CTO and other engineers, taking ownership of features from idea and design through to production. You’ll have a real voice in technical decisions and the opportunity to shape how we build and scale our product.

Our current stack is Clojure and Datomic Cloud, and we are evaluating a move to Datomic Pro. You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in that decision and, if we move forward, help lead the transition.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and ship features in Clojure across our data model, backend services, and APIs
• Work with Datomic day to day: schema design, Datalog query patterns, and data modeling
• Help evaluate and potentially implement a Datomic Pro setup
• Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code as part of your everyday development workflow
• Review, guide, and improve AI-generated code and solutions
• Work closely with the CTO and engineering team on technical decisions
• Take ownership of features from initial idea through to production
• Help keep our systems simple, reliable, and easy to maintain

What We're Looking For

• Strong, hands-on experience with Clojure in a professional environment
• A good understanding of functional programming and data-oriented design
• Experience working with Datomic or a strong interest in learning it
• Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Pi, Eca, or similar tools in real production work
• Ability to take ownership and work independently, even when requirements are not fully defined
• Comfortable making technical decisions and explaining your reasoning
• A practical mindset: you value simple, maintainable solutions over unnecessary complexity

Nice To Have

• Experience with Datomic Pro, especially production setup or migrations
• Familiarity with tools.deps, Integrant, Component, core.async, or other parts of the Clojure ecosystem

Our Stack

Clojure and Datomic Cloud (AWS), plus the usual supporting infra and tooling around them.

Compensation
