What they need

Senior C++ Software Engineer

Sightline Intelligence | Murarrie, Brisbane | Full time
$130k-$165k + super

Put your C++ expertise to work on defence AI.

Build software that turns live imagery into useful intelligence.

At Sightline Intelligence, we develop vision-based AI, onboard video processing and geospatial technology for defence and security applications. Our teams in Australia and the United States bring together expertise in software, machine learning and hardware to support customers around the world.

We’d love to welcome an experienced C++ engineer who enjoys solving interesting problems, sharing ideas and seeing their work become part of a finished product. Joining our Brisbane team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues locally and overseas, help shape technical decisions and stay hands-on with development, taking features from initial design through to deployment and ongoing improvement.

What you can look forward to

  • Interesting engineering challenges. Put your skills to work on software where performance, reliability and thoughtful design matter. You’ll collaborate with people across machine learning, systems and hardware, with opportunities to learn from each other along the way.
  • Room to contribute and make your mark. Bring your ideas into architecture discussions, help improve how we build software and share your experience with fellow engineers. Our flat management structure and open-door approach encourage questions, suggestions and conversations.
  • Flexibility around your day. Enjoy flexible start and finish times around core hours. We’re happy to explore work-from-home and hybrid options to find an arrangement that works for you and the team.
  • Time to connect as a team. Get involved in engineering hackathons, enjoy monthly employee lunches and celebrate milestones together, including our Christmas party.
  • A few extras to enjoy. Bonus opportunities sit alongside free onsite parking, coffee, soft drinks and snacks. Games and breakout spaces give you somewhere to take a breather and catch up with colleagues.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll work primarily in modern C++, staying involved throughout the software development lifecycle. Alongside the team, you’ll:

  • Take ownership of major features and subsystems, helping turn initial ideas and requirements into well-designed, tested and released software.
  • Shape practical technical solutions, considering performance, reliability, maintainability and delivery.
  • Work through complex software issues, improve performance and help strengthen our testing, build and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines, exchange feedback through code reviews and support other engineers as they develop their skills.

There’s room to contribute both to the products we create and to the way we work together to build them.

What you’ll bring to the team

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience developing and delivering complex production software in C++.
  • A solid understanding of software architecture, concurrency, memory management and performance optimisation.
  • An interest in working through challenging technical problems and talking through possible solutions.
  • A collaborative approach and a willingness to share your knowledge and learn from others.
  • A degree in software engineering, computer science or a related field.

Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm or other edge-computing platforms would be a welcome addition. The same goes for computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, real-time software or defence.

If these areas are new to you, that’s okay. Previous experience in them isn’t essential, and we’d be interested to hear how your C++ and software engineering experience could translate.

Let’s talk

If this sounds like the kind of work and team you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you. Apply with your CV and tell us a little about the software you’ve built, the problems you enjoy solving and what you’re looking for next.
