Senior Software Engineer

Your Role

Be the person our engineers and our clients go to when the work is complex, unfamiliar, or going wrong and leave the engineers around you better than you found them.

What this role is for

1. Judgement on unfamiliar work. You can pick up a codebase you have never seen, or a problem nobody has defined yet, and form a view on it. What we build should be neither over-engineered nor hand-rolled, and you are the one who calls it.
2. Bringing engineers along. You make time for the people you work with, and you can tell someone how to improve rather than only that something needs improving.
3. Client conversations. Architecture, feasibility, trade-offs, timelines held directly with clients in the USA and UK.

Must-have

1. 7+ years building and debugging web applications.
2. A CMS and martech background, WordPress above all. Also Shopify, Sanity, Contentful or similar. Most of what we build is WordPress, and you are happy to stay close to it. You have built on a CMS rather than only worked inside one: custom plugins and modules, custom editorial workflows, and content models built for the people using them.
3. Comfortable across stacks — JavaScript/TypeScript, PHP/WordPress. You reach for the right tool, not the familiar one.
4. Code maintainability and reliability, technical debt kept in check, and experience writing unit tests.
5. Excellent English, spoken and written. Our clients are in the USA, UK and AU.
6. Fluency with AI coding tools. We use them and keep getting better at it
7. You mentor engineers proactively and keep them unblocked.

Good to have

• Technical ownership of a maintenance or retainer engagement
• Real depth in one CMS: multisite, performance, integrations, or a headless front end
• AWS, Vercel, or other hosting and deployment platforms
• Coaching or buddying engineers, formally or informally
• Clients in the USA, UK or Australia

What you will own

• Complex and unfamiliar work across engagements, so no single person is the only route to it
• Coaching specific engineers, with progress we can both see
• Technical conversations with clients on the engagements you cover
• Technical oversight of other teams and engagements
• A seat on our technical panel, reviewing and helping us shape our technical direction
• A clear read on how your engineers are progressing — strengths, and where they need support
