Senior Software Engineer

Hello Molly is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, this role will contribute to the design, development, modernisation and integration of the software systems supporting our growing e-commerce operations.

Our technology environment includes customer-facing web and mobile applications, middleware services, ERP systems, shipping and returns platforms, AI-enabled applications, and integrations with a broad range of commerce, logistics, marketing and cloud services.

As our software ecosystem continues to expand, this role will provide senior-level engineering capability across multiple systems and projects, with a particular focus on software architecture, systems integration, platform modernisation and engineering standards.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, test, implement and maintain software applications, services and system components.
• Contribute to the modernisation of existing software platforms, including the migration of legacy middleware to modern service-based architecture.
• Design and develop reliable APIs, services and integrations between internal applications and third-party platforms.
• Contribute to event-driven and queue-based software architecture and ensure appropriate handling of system events and transactions.
• Analyse existing software systems and identify opportunities for improvement, modernisation and technical simplification.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of internal ERP and operational platforms.
• Develop and maintain integrations with e-commerce, logistics, marketing and cloud platforms.
• Work with the Head of Engineering and other developers on software architecture and technical design decisions.
• Establish and apply appropriate software engineering standards, including code quality, documentation, testing and maintainability.
• Incorporate security, privacy and data governance considerations into software design and development.
• Troubleshoot complex software and integration issues and implement appropriate technical solutions.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to other members of the Engineering Team.
• Maintain technical documentation relating to software architecture, services, integrations and development standards.

What You'll Have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including experience working on complex software systems.
• Strong experience in software design, development, testing, debugging and systems integration.
• Experience developing backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Experience with modern software architecture, including service-based and/or event-driven systems.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and development lifecycle practices.
• Experience working with cloud-based applications and services.
• Ability to analyse complex technical problems and develop practical, maintainable solutions.
• Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Highly Desirable Skills:

• TypeScript / JavaScript and Node.js environments;
• NestJS or similar backend frameworks;
• PHP and/or Go;
• Next.js;
• event-driven architecture and queue-based systems;
• AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform;
• e-commerce and ERP systems;
• third-party API and systems integration; and

Shopify or other large-scale e-commerce platforms.

Pay: $108,994.25 – $170,074.78 per year
