Remedy Scientific is an Oakland-based technology startup tackling the enormous challenge of environmentally contaminated land. Our mission is to accelerate the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated sites, returning idle, polluted land to productive use.

Remedy combines novel chemistry, hardware, and software to transform how environmental remediation is performed. We're building scalable systems to automate and optimize the complex workflows involved in site investigation, laboratory analysis, regulatory reporting, remediation, and redevelopment. By making these processes faster and more efficient, we aim to bring contaminated land back into productive use at a much greater scale.

Role Description

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design and build Remedy's core software systems. This is a backend-focused full-stack role with substantial ownership and opportunities to influence technical direction.

You'll design and implement backend services, APIs, relational data models, and data processing workflows, while also building the frontend features needed to deliver complete product solutions. The work includes developing systems that process environmental and laboratory data, automate complex operational workflows, and incorporate applied AI capabilities such as document extraction, retrieval, and report generation.

As part of a small engineering team, you'll own problems from initial discovery and requirements gathering through technical design, implementation, deployment, and iteration. You'll collaborate directly with chemists, geologists, and other domain experts to understand real-world needs and develop effective solutions.

This is a full-time, in-person role based in Oakland, CA, offering close collaboration across disciplines and meaningful involvement in shaping Remedy's technology and engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated technical expertise and independent ownership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems, including APIs, relational databases, and data processing workflows.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, or another modern programming language, with the ability to work effectively in a TypeScript-first codebase.
• Experience building production web applications, including frontend development with React or a similar framework.
• Strong software design fundamentals, including system architecture, testing, reliability, maintainability, and performance tradeoffs.
• Experience deploying and operating software in a cloud environment such as GCP or AWS.
• Sound engineering judgment and the ability to balance rapid delivery with long-term system quality.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people from different technical and scientific disciplines.
• Experience with applied AI, document processing, data-intensive systems, scientific computing, or geospatial technologies is a plus.
• Comfortable taking ownership of complex problems and working in a small, fast-moving team with evolving requirements.
