Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire (Hybrid)

Salary: £75,000 - £80,000 per annum (Permanent)

OR £600 - £700 per day (Contract)

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established technology business with over 30 years of experience delivering transcription, document production and digital dictation solutions to the legal sector. Supporting more than 120 active clients across the UK, they are entering an exciting period of growth and technological transformation. They are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer - AI & Platform to play a key role in modernising their proprietary platform, deploying AI-driven solutions, and helping shape the future of their technology estate. This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with modern AI technologies, and modernising legacy systems in a business-critical environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead two major technology initiatives:

AI Speech Recognition Platform

You will take an existing speech-to-text solution from proof-of-concept through to a robust production-ready platform. The solution leverages leading AI technologies, including speech recognition and large language models, to automate document creation and quality assurance workflows.

Responsibilities include:

• Taking ownership of an existing AI-driven speech recognition platform
• Improving transcription accuracy and performance
• Developing quality assurance and correction workflows
• Enhancing document formatting and template generation capabilities
• Building reporting around processing costs, quality metrics and performance
• Implementing resilient, scalable hosting architecture
• Monitoring system failures, alerts and operational performance
• Driving continuous improvement through data analysis and AI model evaluation

Platform Modernisation & Migration

A significant portion of the organisation's core platform currently operates on a legacy ColdFusion environment. You will help deliver a strategic migration to Lucee while ensuring continuity of service for a large and established customer base.

Responsibilities include:

• Mapping and documenting business-critical workflows
• Identifying and rationalising legacy application components
• Migrating key services from ColdFusion to Lucee
• Managing application configuration and deployment processes
• Troubleshooting platform compatibility issues
• Working with Java integrations and third-party services
• Delivering parallel-running migration strategies to minimise risk
• Improving platform security, testing coverage and change control processes

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable software solutions
• Lead AI-first development initiatives using modern AI coding and automation tools
• Build reproducible deployment and testing processes
• Introduce automated testing and characterisation testing across legacy applications
• Enhance documentation and technical governance
• Work collaboratively with technical, QA and business stakeholders
• Support the creation of robust development, testing and deployment environments
• Ensure all changes follow established review and change management procedures

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET development
• Experience deploying and supporting production-grade software solutions
• Experience implementing AI, machine learning, speech recognition or speech-to-text technologies
• Strong understanding of modern AI development tools and coding assistants
• Experience working with large, complex legacy systems
• Excellent SQL Server database skills
• Proven experience delivering software changes safely within live environments
• Experience writing automated tests and implementing quality controls
• Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables

Desirable Experience

• ColdFusion (CFML) development experience
• Lucee migration experience
• Legacy .NET Framework applications

• Medical or highly regulated industries
