What they need
wheel.me is a Norwegian robotics and IoT company focused on redefining indoor mobility for modern businesses. By specializing in autonomous wheels, the company transforms existing infrastructure into self-driving robots without requiring extensive facility changes. This approach enables organizations to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity along their automation journeys. As an innovative player in robotics, wheel.me offers a dynamic environment for professionals interested in cutting-edge hardware, software, and IoT solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to deliver scalable, impactful automation technology to global customers.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to own Developer Experience: CI/CD, build systems, automated testing, static analysis, quality gates and release automation. You will build the pipelines, internal tools and test frameworks that let us ship a quality product faster and with more confidence, on infrastructure designed to scale as the fleet grows. You work closely with the tech teams that build the product.
This is a hands on role in a team that works in sprints. Success is measured in the quality of what reaches our customers: reliable releases onto robots in the field, trustworthy tests and faster builds.
Experience
- 5+ years building and maintaining production software, with ownership of CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and test automation.
- Experience building CI for compiled code such as C and C++: containerized builds, caching and parallel jobs, with an understanding of compilers, toolchains and build systems such as CMake, catkin and colcon.
- Experience with test automation at unit, integration and system level.
- Experience with release and deployment automation.
- Experience shortening developer feedback loops: checks before merge, handling of flaky tests, and test results developers trust.
- Comfortable working close to hardware and collaborating across engineering teams.
- We value a strong systems foundation and the ability to ramp quickly over experience with any specific framework.
Technical skills
- Working knowledge of Linux, including Docker or Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
- Experience with AWS. Experience with Azure is a plus.
- Working knowledge of embedded Linux builds. We use custom Yocto images and RAUC for updates. You own the pipeline infrastructure that builds and tests them.
- Test and quality tooling in Git pull requests: test frameworks, sharding, code coverage, linting and static analysis.
- Bonus: experience with testing on target hardware or hardware in the loop.
What you will do
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines and build systems across the whole stack, from the robot to the cloud, designed to scale across a fleet of several robot types.
- Build the test frameworks and pipelines that run unit, integration, on target and hardware in the loop tests. Teams write their tests; you make them fast and reliable.
- Automate the build and release process across the stack.
- Develop tooling, quality gates, and static analysis that improve code quality without slowing developers down.
- Make builds reproducible and pipelines measurable: build time, failure rate and flaky tests tracked and visible to developers.
- Reduce build times, eliminate flaky tests, and shorten the path from commit to running on a robot.
- Work with developers across the tech teams to find and remove bottlenecks in how we build, test and ship.
- Develop the monorepo conventions, project structure and shared workflows together with the tech teams.
What we are looking for
- You care about the quality of what reaches our customers, and you build tools that make good practice the easy path for every developer.
- Strong engineering judgement and a preference for reusable infrastructure that serves the whole fleet over single purpose pipelines.
- Methodical debugging, a high bar for correctness, and pragmatism about working within an existing stack.
- Strong collaboration across the engineering organisation and clear technical communication in fluent English.
Our tech stack
- Languages: C++, C, Python, Bash, Rust
- Robotics & middleware: ROS 1, ROS 2, CAN bus, MQTT, gRPC
- Simulation & visualization: Gazebo, RViz
- Embedded: Rust, C on the microcontrollers
- OS & build: Linux, custom Yocto builds, RAUC for OTA updates
- Cloud & fleet: AWS, AWS IoT Greengrass, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
- Build & tooling: CMake, colcon, catkin, ament, Git, Azure DevOps CI/CD, Claude Code
What we offer
- A role where the tools you build are used by every team and on every robot we ship.
- An international team.
- A centrally located office at Skøyen, Oslo, close to public transport.
- Flexible working hours.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Opportunities for professional growth and influence over advanced robotics development
Other offers great for you!
