What they need
Front to back. End to end. Built for millions.
Own the full picture. Most engineers own a layer. You'll own the stack.
As a senior full stack engineer, you'll lead end-to-end initiatives, design complete solutions and provide technical leadership across the entire application stack – from the interface a client taps on our app to the back-end systems processing their claim in real time.
Capitec Insurance is making a significant move into South Africa's insurance market, with 23 million banking clients and a three-year growth plan that demands technology built to scale. We're committed to making life cover more affordable, transparent and simple – with a fully digital application that takes less than 10 minutes and no medical tests.
Every line of code you write is part of keeping that promise.
What you'll do here
Lead end-to-end system design across the full application stack
Make architectural decisions that span front-end and back-end
Mentor engineers on full stack practices and holistic technical thinking
Drive technical standards across the team
Design complete application architectures from the ground up
Optimise performance across the entire stack
Integrate complex systems across our insurance platform
Balance front-end UX with back-end performance – so clients feel the quality of what you build

Strong back-end capability in C#/.NET Core
Solid front-end experience with React or Vue and TypeScript
Experience designing scalable systems in AWS environments
A track record of leading technical decisions across the full stack – not just executing them
Experience working in regulated or financial services environments is a strong advantage
The ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to engineers, architects and business stakeholders
A genuine interest in growing the engineers around you
Education
Minimum: Grade 12 National Certificate
Preferred: A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology
Knowledge You can apply expert-level knowledge and develop others' understanding across:
IT systems development processes (SDLC) and agile delivery
Advanced programming concepts and design patterns

Front-end architecture and component design
Database systems and query optimisation (SQL and NoSQL)
RESTful API design and integration

Testing practices – unit, integration and end-to-end
What's in it for you
This is where full stack engineers do some of their most complete work. You're not looking for a role where you're siloed into one layer. You want to see the whole system, lead across it and build something that people use. Here's what we offer.
End-to-end ownership – at real scale
Our platform powers Funeral Cover, Life Cover and Credit Insurance for millions of South Africans. When you optimise a client journey or rearchitect an integration, the impact is immediate and measurable. You'll see your work in the hands of real people.
Work that matters beyond the sprint South Africa's vast insurance gap is likely due to people's experience of life insurance as complicated, expensive and intimidating. We're committed to helping South Africans overcome these obstacles. The full stack platform you build is how we close that gap.
A team worth leading We are passionate people who love what we do, and we contribute and work together as a team to achieve our purpose. You'll mentor engineers who are motivated to grow, in a space where your breadth of skill is genuinely valued.
Growth that's real, not just promised We believe in investing in the growth and development of our people and proactively encourage continuous learning and development. We have a high internal promotion rate; if you are a self-starter who takes initiative and is motivated to be the best you can be the opportunities for growth are endless.
A culture built on trust We welcome diverse thinking, promote a learning environment, and encourage each team member to use the available opportunities to grow and unlock their potential. We value humility, informality and entrepreneurial spirit. No politics. No suits. No silos.
Flexibility where it counts You can be based at any of our head-office locations Cape Town or Johannesburg on a Hybrid bases (Maximum 3 days in office)
